Was in the 1962 AFL Title Game that the Dallas Texans won in Overtime. Remarkably similar situation except Houston Oilers RB Abner Haynes didn't correct himself on the Overtime Coin Toss:

The wind was blowing so hard that Stram wanted it at his team’s back, rather than the ball, to start overtime. He conveyed his wish to Haynes, a co-captain, and the Texans won the flip, but Haynes erred when he told the official, “We’ll kick to the clock,” meaning toward the end of the field with the scoreboard.
“He can’t do that,” said tackle Al Jamison, a Houston co-captain. “He can’t decide whether to kick and also which direction he wants.”
The official, Red Bourne, realized Jamison was right and ruled that Haynes had stated his selection when he said, “We’ll kick. Bourne then let Houston choose which direction to head.
It seemed impossible: the Oilers had lost the flip but ended up with both the ball and the wind at their backs.
