Another year, another Jason Witten record for Zach Ertz to break.

Last season, the Eagles tight end broke Witten’s NFL single-season record for receptions by a tight end (116). Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field, Ertz could break the NFL record for receptions by a tight end through the first seven seasons of a career ... in front of Witten, the current record holder.

Ertz has 521 receptions through his first seven seasons. Witten had 523 during the same timeframe, so Ertz only needs three catches to surpass one of his NFL heroes.

He's a heck of a TE & Wentz relies on him to bail him out. Hopefully he waits until the final game to get that 2nd & 3rd catch.

Then again he's an Eagle, so he's probably been holding back just so that he can rub it in Jason's face.

What I like about Ertz is his respect for the history of the game and its players. He is always quick to mention Witten as a guy he tries emulate.

I wish he would emulate Witten’s blocking and YAC ability a bit more. Great pass catcher but pretty bad at blocking and he goes down at the first sign of contact.

Goedert isn’t as athletic but I think he’ll end up being a better all around TE.

I would bet money if you went to Jason witten and said “hey Ertz breaks your record but you win, you ok” and witten would trade all his records for a win and a playoff birth with a chance at a Super Bowl.

That’s what winners do.

that’s what champions do.

witten knows he’s at the end....do you think he cares about a record or a shot at a ring?

Sadly, Ertz will end up with the record and a ring.

I wish he would run more 7 yard routs on 3rd and 10 or drop some passes. Ertz is a royal pain the arse.

Putting the homicide aside, Hernandez and Gronk worked out pretty well in NE.
Yeah but that works for NE. Not necessarily anyone else.

That wasn't the replacement, they run a two TE set a lot. I mean, Goedert has 45 catches himself this year.

He has 45 catches because their receivers suck. But by no means has Goedert shown he was worth a 2nd round pick. Eagles didn't have a 1st round pick to begin with. It made no sense to me. I'm glad they did though. Glad they didn't get James Washington or DJ Chark.

Kept hearing a bunch of crap about Cooley from Commander fans awhile back too.

Let these posers do it when they get old and for as long as Witten did and then we can compare.

Ertz is a good football player. No comparison to Witten as a blocker in his prime so I reckon we can just talk about what tight ends are nowadays and that’s virtually glorified receivers. In regards to that, our boy is top 4 in receptions all-time.

....all the more reason to draft a TE that can catch then. You're proving why it was a good pick. They run a two TE set, he was the best player on the board when the Eagles chose. They are getting quality play from him.

Again, it's the system you are ignoring. They weren't trying to replace Ertz, they were replacing Celek who they lost.
