The problem with the defense was scheme. The Eagles killed the Cowboys with little flairs and screens and those passes to the TEs over the middle. For some reason the Cowboys defense lets TEs go over the middle uncontested and RBs out out the backfield uncovered. Last year the defense would swarm to those players and keep them from going for big plays. This year, its just amazing how open the RBs and TEs are almost every play. It was obvious from the first Eagles possession that Wentz was throwing quick, short passes to get the ball out of his hand. The Cowboys continued to play that soft off coverage. How many times did we see the TE sit in the middle of the field while the Cowboys defenders watched him make a catch? The Eagles took advantage of a Cowboys defense that plays soft. Then, the Eagles ran the same screen play to the TE that Chicago ran with almost the same result. Two linemen downfield with no one to block.
The Cowboys defense needs to be more aggressive against teams like the Eagles that have no downfield threats. The longest pass came on a broken coverage. Other long plays were screens.
But, at the end of the day, the Eagles came out more fired up than Dallas and showed they wanted it more. The Cowboys were unprepared and flat. This was a game for all the marbles. In retrospect, I would rather they lost to he Rams and gave that kind of effort against the Eagles.
