When I was a little squirt, a young girl saved my life. I must have been something like 3 or 4 years old because I didn't know how to swim yet. My mom got me swimming lessons when I was 5. This was a long time ago, and my memory is fragmented, but I know the basics of what happened. It was summer, and my family was at some kind of barbecue at someone's house. It may have been a church event or it could have been a water skiing one. My family did competitive water skiing when I was a kid. I don't remember for sure because it was so long ago. People were eating food and drinking, and there was a swimming pool there. I was in my swimming trunks and the pool looked inviting. I figured I would jump into the shallow end and just wade around some. It would be a great way to cool off on a hot day. So I jumped into what I thought was the shallow end, only it wasn't. It was the deep end. My eyesight was not very good due to nearsightedness, and I had not gotten glasses yet. So I sank right to the bottom and didn't know how to get out. I was right by this slope that would go up to the shallow end, but I couldn't get any traction to walk up it. I flailed my arms, trying to swim up, but it didn't work as I didn't know how to swim. Fortunately, a young girl grabbed me by my armpits and pulled me out of there. She set me on the grass by the pool, and I was coughing and gagging. I've never felt so thankful in my life just to be able to breathe. Fortunately, I had not inhaled the water, but I had been totally helpless. If she hadn't pulled me out, I would have drowned for sure. I was incredibly lucky that she had noticed because I don't think anyone else did. My parents didn't even know that it had happened. I think they may have been inside the house talking with people. The girl was a teenager, maybe around 13 or 14 with short, blonde hair and was wearing a one-piece pink bathing suit. She said, “You almost drowned." I ended up making friends with her and talking with her at the event, but today I can't remember her name or what the event was or even what state we were in. If it was a water skiing event, it could have been in any state in the South Central region. But I'm not certain it was a water skiing thing. It could have been a function from my parents' church. I just don't remember enough to figure out exactly where I was or who that girl was.

The girl who saved my life could still be alive today somewhere, but I don't know enough to be able to track her down. If I could, I would certainly thank her. I'm alive today because she was alert and took quick action when she saw that I was in trouble.

Your turn. Is there someone from your past whom you would thank if you could?

☆Elvis...what he and his music has meant and does mean to me on a very deep and personal level is beyond exression...except a very personal THANK YOU.

☆Coach Landry...I actually did...I wrote what musta seemed like hundreds of letters to him.
did thank him...told him i loved him and what he did for our team and how much i just couldnt wait for the next game...the next season.
over a 2-3 year period i wrote him...emptied my bucket...and he responded many,many times.
letters, autographed photos, christmas cards and numerous care packages.
but to have been able to meet him...in person and thank him.....woulda been AWESOME.

☆George Washington....a profound THANK YOU for what he built.

I would thank my Dad who died a couple of years ago. When I was about 10, we went to the Virgin Islands and I stepped on fire coral in water over my head. I thought something had bid my lower half off because it instantly paralyzed my legs. My Dad was the only one near me and prevented me from drowning. I never said thank you but he wouldn't have expected it anyway. Just a good Dad doing what a good Dad does. Thanks for keeping me alive and everything else you did for me Dad.

I would thank so many people...

My forefathers from several different family trees who had the courage to move from parts of the world that my relatives had lived in for generations for a totally new and unknown country.

George Washington & the rest that folks that guided this country on a path of independence.

Abraham Lincoln, whom I consider to be the greatest president of all-time, who managed to keep this country from splitting apart.

Several doctors and scientists who discovered a variety of medicines and cures for diseases that use to kill or maim millions around the globe just a few decades ago.

The leaders of the US and USSR during the cold war because someway, somehow, they did not destroy the planet.

by your age at the time what year was it, approximately? Are your parents or family there no longer around?
you could try putting up a youtube video, or a facebook page, titled looking for girl who had pink BS in 19-- at summer event and save a boy in pool.
you might get a hit on that.

Well, I learned to swim when I was 5 and this was before that, so I was probably 3 or 4 years old. That would have been 1967 or '68. My parents are still living, but they don't remember the event. I haven't tried asking my brother or sister though.

Your Youtube idea isn't a bad one. Hmmm. Maybe that could work. It's tough because I don't even know her name. She saved my life and I don't even know her name. That makes me sad.

How do you think she feels? She's been waiting all these years for a proper thank you. And the best you could muster would be "Uh....uh......lady, thank you for saving my life".

My mother, grandfather, and grandmother. With my father in the Navy as a kid. They are the people who raised me and made the biggest impact on my life. Those three people are responsible for who I became today from a professional standpoint.

Now, the unprofessional side. That was all my own doings! :D

Well she might remember having a pink bs back in 67 and then saving a boy in a pool, worth a shot and costs nothing.

I had a disagreement with my supervisor at work tonight. I never backed down from the kiss a__. I want to thank my mom and dad that taught me that dignity and pride are worth fighting for. At the end of the day, your mom (rip mom) and dad should be your role models...

Pride is one of the seven deadly sins. heh Just saying. :D

If You vote for Me in the annual Cowboyszone awards (I have high hopes in the "Best Poster in a foreign language" category), I promise to tell You in My acceptance speech.
