Cowboys assistant coaches with expiring contracts told to seek work elsewhere

Interesting. A new coach would probably want all his own guys, but I could see the Cowboys retaining a guy like Kellen Moore and letting the new guy decide to fire him or not.

It's just strange they're doing everything with Garrett instead of simply firing him and then telling certain coaches whether or not they'll be retained.

Per the videos on NFL.com under these two stories, Jason Garrett has told his assistant coaches with expiring contracts to look for work elsewhere.

Here is a list of coaches with expiring contracts:
  • Rod Marinelli (DC)
  • Kris Richard (DB's)
  • Ben Bloom (LB's)
  • Leon Lett (DL)
  • Gary Brown (RB's)
  • Doug Nussmeier (TE's)
  • Greg Jackson (Safeties)
And of course, Jason Garrett's contract is expiring, but apparently he has not yet been told to seek work elsewhere.

I suspect Jerry is going to use Garrett to finish up meetings with players and staff before cutting him loose. It's hard to imagine Jason Garrett telling his assistants to hit the road, if he thinks he's coming back.

EDIT: Updated list of coaches with expiring contracts
THE ENTIRE COACHING STAFF MUST GO.

A new coach isn't ever able to bring all the guys he wants.

Why get rid of the guys with contracts. At least give a new coach the option to keep or fire. Let's not act stupidly.
Let the new coach have a clean slate. We desperately need a total culture change here.

THE ENTIRE COACHING STAFF MUST GO

They were not told to seek work elsewhere. Like they were being fired. They were told they were free to seek work wherever they wanted because their contracts were expiring.

Not going to happen... But the only real problem with this team is JJ & Jonz fam! The coaching staff is fine...and would certainly show improvement if they had the opportunity to be in control of their own decisions...less JJ interference!

I'm starting to think Garrett will be the new coach. Throw everyone else under the bus, maybe that will keep the fans on board.

If Garrett stays as HC, I'll treat this team like every other team - watch on occasion. No more scheduling my time around the Cowboys game, if I happen to be home when they play, maybe I'll watch a bit. I'm done.
