It’s gotta be Matt Rhule, right?

Am I being punked?

People are actually getting excited about a college coach whose greatest achievement is that he led Temple to two consecutive 10-win seasons?

You guys, stop. This ain't funny.

I went to Temple and played for Arians back in the day.

Trust me, 2 consecutive 10 win seasons at Temple is like coaching the Browns to 2 consecutive World Series Championships.

1. When asked about Riley, Jerry gushed about Rhule.
2. Jerry said he’s in no hurry to make a coaching move.
3. Rhule said he’s going to Mexico after the Sugar Bowl.
4. The Giants are reportedly worried that they might lose Rhule to Dallas, which is a weird thing to be worried about unless they know something we don’t.

It seems like there’s some smoke here. You can’t connect the same dots with Riley, Meyer, or anyone else. Riley knows Stephen, and Meyer made a comment on TV once. Okay.

I don’t get the impression that they’re interested in any other college coaches or any NFL coaches who are currently available. Maybe there’s a coordinator for a playoff team that they’re interested in, but if not, I’d bet it’s Rhule.

Meanwhile, Jerry & Son are having another sit down with JG tomorrow. Does it really take multiple meetings to let someone go, or is there something else afoot?

What are the chances of Mcdaniels flaming out as head coach. Pretty good I believe. I wonder if a successful future head coach can even work under Belichick.

Dunno, but don't misread what I said... I'm just making an attempt to think like Jerry based on what I've heard Jerry say through the many years. It's not the one-time oratory that matters... it's those themes that he keeps returning to that, imo, should be taken as salient.

Because he won by being a great recruiter at Ohio St, he is done putting the work in.

Burnt out twice

Plus he is a grade A scum bag ,

Not sure he’s done and I think a new challenge would motivate him but I do fear he wouldn’t stick around long and that’s why Rhule is my number one choice.

I'm not unaware of Temple's futility, but there's nothing you can accomplish at Temple or any other non-autonomous school ever that would, to my mind, make you a top shelf candidate for the most prestigious football coaching position in the world... in fact, for all his achievements, it's a legitimate discussion whether the guy who won at Bowling Green, Utah, Florida and Ohio State belongs (... personally, though, I think he does).

Tend to think McDaniels' previous experience could prove to be a net positive, fwiw... allowing him to avoid some of his rookie mistakes wherever his next top-guy assignment comes from, Big D or otherwise.

Yes it's possible, but that step from coordinator to head coach is only for a few. Not many survive.

Yeah taking a mess at Baylor from 1-11 to 11-1 in 3 years is no achievement at all is it?

Are you still living in 2016 or what?

It's only "the most prestigious football coaching position in the world " on paper , in theory, much the same way the Cowboys were the most talented team in the NFL this year. It may be the most prestigious title , but certainly far from the most prestigious job .

A guy like Urban isn't going to take this job unless he's just looking to kick up his heels and add a cool line to his resume. He'd come for the title, not the job. His administrative and GM strengths would be wasted in Dallas and he has too strong a pedigree to risk ruining his legacy by giving up control of his success to someone like Jerry.

Best bet may be a coach like Rhule that you catch early enough that he doesn't have the clout yet to demand more control than Jerry is willing to give up.

It's an admirable achievement.

Still, it's not like I haven't seen admirable achievements in my 50-ish years of watching college football coaches come and go.

Enough for you, apparently. Not enough for me. This job is too big for this guy, at least for now.

Yes but tbe program was a mess because of tbe culture at the school, it was a disaster when Rhule got there

The Baylor program was a mess when Ruhle took over. The OU vs Baylor game: OU was very concerned that Baylor was going to win the game (they almost did) and suggested that if Baylor won, Baylor would be at the top of the Big 12 for many years to come.

Um. The operative term is "prestigious." In other words, the most high profile job or job title or position or whatever noun you want to attach to it... this is that. It doesn't get bigger in baseball than to be the guy chosen to be the NYY manager, and it doesn't get any bigger in football than to be the guy chosen to be the DAL head coach.

I still never understood the David Shaw craze, what exactly did he do? What about Riley? Inherited a deep recruiting pipeline and a loaded roster from day one, thanks to Bob Stoops. Now he puts up big numbers in the weakest defensive conference in the league and almost lost to several scrub teams this year.

At least Rhule has a bit of NFL coaching experience and took a 1 win team and turned it into a team that almost beat Riley’s precious Sooners a year later in the Big 12 Championship and that was using a 3rd or 4th string QB much of the game. His play calling and his back up QB’s are what almost toppled Riley’s “dream team” compared to what Baylor had.
Zeke Rhules!!! Would make a nice shirt!! Lol!

Um. Now c'mon. "Connected"... by who that you think actually knows anything? We had this same kinda thing going a year ago when the OC job first opened up. We know how these things play out.
I remember seeing YouTube videos on here about Coley from Georgia. His offense was a dud this year.
