For those who think this FO is a circus, recall 2014, 2016, and 2018

I'm going to refrain from bringing up the 2007 and 2009 playoff teams (07 was a #1 seed), because one could say BP had a lot to do with those rosters.

The 2014 Cowboys made it to the divisional round vs. Green Bay. Tough road loss, and yes Dez made the catch, but when you lose a playoff game, it's NOT the owner's fault...it's NOT the GM's fault (in this case, both of whom = Jerry). Dallas was in position to advance to the NFC Championship game. They didn't, so you have to point the blame toward the HC and/or the players. How much blame does Garrett deserve, relative to the players? I'll leave that up to you. All I know is you can't blame Jerry there.

2016 -- same deal, only this was a #1 seed! A #1 seed, 13-3 season record, is testament to the roster, which you have to give credit to the FO. Funny how no one was talking "circus FO" during that season when Dallas won, what, 9 straight.

Lose in the divisional round, at home, to GB?? Sorry, that's all on Garrett and/or the players (again).

2018 -- Similar to 2014, losing a road divisional game.

Get the theme here fellas? As much as y'all want to pile on the owner and the GM, a little bit of coaching could have gone a looooong way in at least 3 post-seasons during the last 10 years.

Fire away.

No way to dispute your statement except to ponder on why the Cowboys have existed with such a weakness at HC.

Maybe it's a little more complicated than we think it is.

Jason Garrett, given a really good roster, can make it to the post season 4/10 seasons, but given his questionable game-day coaching, cannot take the team to the next level.

Good regular season team, just not as good during crunch time. We see that happen all the time with other franchises (hello Vikings). Not sure it's a player motivational issue with Garrett, or just the mere fact that his teams are too predictable during the post season.

Either way, what I'm saying here, is that Garrett deserves much of the blame. If it were mostly the FO, we'd be looking at more 4-12 / 6-10 type seasons over the past 10 years. But again, for the most part, the roster hasn't been as much of an issue.

This is why I have marginal hope at best for this team, even with Garrett gone. Jerry watched a team that could have won two Super Bowls, sink under Garrett for a decade. And we're supposed to think he suddenly cares now because he's older? Jerry ain't mad at any of our worthless coaches, he's heartbroken and reluctant.

I believe you're right with the first line of your statement it's way more complicated than we can imagine that might be some of the problem with the Dallas Cowboys they make it way to complicated? In the front office anyway and then on the field we play way too simple so simple that the other team knows what we're going to do before we do it

Several players from other teams that played us this year have made the comment that they have known what we're going to run before we even run it

yeah no fooling! sam darnold and the jets of all people being one of them. garrett and his staff were out coached by adam gase and the jets...and this is the coach jerry has stuck with for a decade.

No it's not. The GM hires the coaches. In this case, the GM is also the face of the franchise and sets the tone. He's also the guy that buys the groceries in the 1st and 2nd rounds of the draft.

It is a constant struggle to try to succeed in spite of the bone headed decisions of this GM. Sometimes they do make the postseason. But when they do, the decisions of that one guy catch up to them.

You're wrong. It's not complicated at all.

The Dez catch was a failure because the player was going for the TD instead of the safe play by securing the ball and going to the ground. It’s hard to fault Dez though because it was a catch but it wasn’t the smart play.

We have lost a lot of games because of stupid players.

Yeah, but who is in charge of hiring and firing coaches? That would be Jerry. A sane GM would have fired Garrett after 2013.

A sane GM doesn't hire an offensive coordinator before the head coach, particularly a guy with two years experience as a QB coach... He certainly doesn't promote that guy to Head Coach after the offense was just as much a problem for the team than the defense...

A sane GM doesn't allow the franchise QB to benched just because you're on a winning streak with a backup QB against really weak competition that the starter would have also beaten. You also don't force said franchise QB into retirement.

Jerry Jones is the main culprit in this mess. Garrett just complicates the matter because he is not a good game day coach. Because Jerry is Jerry, some thing will never change. Jerry will continue to talk to the media and cause anger and frustration in the locker room. Jerry will continue to pay guys he drafted way too much money and refuse to pay better FA players the same. Jerry will continue to overhype his own players to the point where he is forced to pay them more than they are worth, and they will have higher expectations for contracts because of what he says about them.

However, a new coaching staff can improve certain important things. For example, a good coaching staff can come up with a good game plan for the team they are going to face this week. A good coaching staff will put in a few wrinkles for the opponent he is facing so they don't get too comfortable. A good HC will manage the clock better, have his players prepared to play, and will demand more focus from the guys on the field. He will get the most out of the players that he puts on the field and will choose the best players to activate every week because they give him the best chance to win the game. A good HC will have a plan other than "we need to execute better". In fact, a good head coach will make sure his team does execute better because he will practice what they don;t do well until they do it well.

A new head coach is not going to fix everything, but he can fix the things under his control and there are a few that are very broken.

You know what they say..............even a blind squirrel..............

The FO's main crime is keeping Garrett. Garrett stinking is their responsibility.
This.

All the stuff about culture and whatever is just noise. But Jerruh definitely deserves blame for keeping JG too long.

no argument here

jerry is ridiculous but he’s brought in solid talent this past decade. The coaching is 100% terrible which I suppose still falls on the lap of jerruh

The last time the Cowboys reached the conference championship game was 1996.

They've changed coaches five times since then, are contemplating a 6th, but have had the same GM the entire time. Get the theme there fella?
