Maybe Jason is finally telling Jerry the real issue that held the team back. Maybe he's telling Jerry that it's Jerry causing the issues hiring coaches, playing Gramps to players. Head coaches need to be able to hold staff and players accountable. Someone Jerry or Stephen needs to hold the HC accountable and so forth and so on.

Make no mistake, this isn't about what's best for the franchise, or the fans, or the players.

This is all about what's best for Jerry. Sure, Jerry has convinced himself that he's so good at running a NFL franchise that what is best for him has to be what's best for the Cowboys, but most outsiders know that's largely BS.

In the end, Jerry does what Jerry does based on how it makes him feel, not necessarily what's best for the franchise. Sometimes those two streams cross and you get a decent outcome, but more often than not, what Jerry wants, what Jerry needs to make himself feel good and smart is not often what's the best move for the team.

It's playing out again here with Garrett. Even bringing Garrett back as a front office guy would be a disaster but nonetheless, it would make Jerry happy.

How would this not have already been figured out ahead of time? Jerry didn’t give him a contract extension last year, so he has basically had a full year to plan for this. If I was potentially going to be fired, I’d want to know as soon as possible. The last thing I’d want to do is just have multiple pointless meetings with my boss with no resolution.

I wouldguess, Jerry said something like, If you make the playoffs, we will work on an extension. That didn't fully playout until about half way through the 3rd quarter in the last game.

Im starting to slowly believe it..

2020 now. Three meetings. The pieces are coming together

Something’s going on. It does’t take 3 meetings to fire someone. Either Jason is pitching his plan, and the Joneses aren’t yet convinced but are willing to continue listen; they’re talking about extending him; or they’re trying to create a role for him to remain with the organization outside of head coach.

But at this point, I feel pretty certain the final headline will read anything but, “Garrett’s time in Dallas done.”

........ Garrett isn't even acclimated to the NFL

Well, according to Jerry College coaches need time to get used to how things get done in the NFL.

Perfect reason for Jerry to justify Garrett for keeping him another year.

You get a meeting, you get another meeting, you'll get a third meeting, there will be meetings for always. Meanwhile, other teams hiring actual coaches.....

Or Jason gave Jerry his evaluation on all the coaches/players last two days and now Jerry is taking two days to decide his plan going forward.

I would bet, they are looking for another role within the organization for him.

Same as Monte Kiffin, "kicked upstairs" to an "advisory" position.

Years ago I worked for an insurance company, and while having drinks after work one day with the manager, he remarked that for the quarter he was hoping to make 30% of his goals. Well, he didn't, but a month later he was promoted to the home office!

It happens...

Jason Garrett will meet for a third time with Cowboys ownership on Thursday, a source said, as discussions about the coach's future extend late into the week.

I can't bring myself to believe Jerry is retaining Garret as HC. The only scenario in which I see that playing out is if Garrett has indeed been vocal against our coaches/coordinators, not only currently but at the time of hire. If Jerry made thoses hires against Garretts protest then I could see Jerry feeling like he was wrong and that he gave Garrett a raw deal, effectively hampering his ability to execute his vision of the team.

This would require 3 huge factors in which I dont believe. The first involves Jerry's ability towards self reflection and him knowing he was wrong. The second is Jerry changing course and giving Garrett complete control over his staff, effectively having Jerry willfully step back. The third is that Garrett actually protested the hires in the first place, but was too much of a company man to make it public. If all three of those are indeed true, then Garrett will be re-signed.

What I believe is much more likely is Jerry having a role in the front office for Garrett. It would have to he a high ranking role in order to be appealing enough for Garrett to leave coaching. Bear in mind Jerry is able to take his time with Garrett and his coaching hunt because it is very likely the coach he wants is currently preparing his team for a bowl game or a playoff game.

These are the only two rational reasons for things to have played out this way. If this is moving so slowly because of Jerry personal affection for Garrett and his own arrogance that he can pick any coach he wants then Jerry is making a huge mistake imo.
