They may be trying to see what coaches th eh actually have a chance of getting. It’s far too early to tell. Maybe we will know more today when a lot of these teams will be out of the playoffs.

I agree it’s too early to tell but none of this makes sense. I’m afraid Garrett has talked Jerry into something and they are first trying to see if they can make it happen. These aren’t the type of coaches we expected. These would be more like a vastly experienced staff under Garrett which is what I fear could be the plan now.

I don’t see any comment on this so here is a reality check:

1. Garrett still hasn’t been fired so the decision to fire Garrett probably has not yet been made.
2. Garrett can interview people say “I wasn’t impressed. I’m keeping Garrett”.
3. He may be interviewing McCarthy as OC and Lewis as DC for Garrett.

I’m just sayin’.

1. Rooney rule.

2. Lewis is a real smart idea if the interview is for DC.
Yeah I thought about the Rooney rule too. He would be a great defensive coordinator but I would like to let the next head coach be able to pick his own staff. I just hope they are not keeping Garret. I would not think Lewis would want to come back in a coordinator capacity.

Nah.

Lewis is a beggar not a chooser, here, but McCarthy is a bonafide HC candidate, and isn't going to accept taking a lesser role.

But here's a thought.

Would Garrett take a OC job under McCarthy?

I may tend to agree that McCarthy wouldn’t accept it but I’m afraid that may be the attempted plan. Why hasn’t Garrett been formally dismissed before they start interviewing guys? I’m afraid Jerry let Garrett talk him into something that lets Garret stay as the coach.

This would be terrible and I fear that is the case now too.

Nice meteor shower early this morning. The Garrett news has now gotten boring. Jerry's put a gag order on the matter.

Again. I don't dismiss the possibility of something like that... but not that.

McCarthy wouldn't waste his time to come here to be interviewed to be OC.

But I could easily see Red saying, "All I want to do is coach for the Dallas Cowboys, and if that means I'm now coaching just the offense, so be it. Mike McCarthy's been in this league a long time, and he's a helluva coach. I'd be lucky to get to coach under him."

But, but.. I thought Garrett had so many opportunities lined up. This man and his family owe everything to Jerry.

I mean he's really pitiful. Have some dignity. Better coaches than him have been let go.

You have to put yourself in Garrett's shoes. He was hired as OC without much coaching experience before Wade Phillips was hired. He was later promoted to the full-time head coach role after his offense failed to meet expectations and Wade was the scapegoat. His play-calling duties were stripped after struggling as HC and play-caller. Got a 5-year extension after a 12-4 season and nothing significant since. Jason believes that he has done enough to continue to be the head coach not based on tangible results but because no measurable standards have been imposed by the front-office.

That's not realistic. More you make, more you want. That just seems to be the way it works.
I guess I'm an exception to the rule...
I'm perfectly happy with what I have.
I love my freedom and the ability to pay my bills in comfort.
Guess it was all that Zen meditation.
