What big DT's should we go after?

If a team takes him in the 2nd they should be fired. If a team really reaches he might go late in the 3rd. More likely 4th or 5th. They all read the same about him. No thanks to a project. There are way better options than him.

I dont put much into scouting reports. I remember scouting reports on Poe made him sound like a massive project. However when you watched film on him, you saw that he could already what was asked of him as an NT. First year in KC, solid starter. 2nd year, Pro Bowler.

Now I haven't watched Fotu, so I have no comment on how accurate the SR's might be. But written reports arent how I like to evaluate players

Good luck, brother. I'd take Raekwon Davis or Javon Kinlaw at #17 myself.

Rod Marinelli was the most overrated coach in Dallas. And that was a very low bar. Grateful, he is no longer stealing money in Dallas.

The DL cant go anywhere, but up.

A little harsh, that year we were signing DL from their couches and Mincey played well was ok, the problem with the DL is that it was treated the same way the OL was for years with lesser talents how many drafts did we all ask for IDl to be made with the first 2 picks, and how many years did we not draft any until day 3. He did ok with the tools that was given to him, lets hope with a change of Personal we get a change in the way our DL is built.

Sign a vet in FA, then draft one early and late. Add more UDFA's.

Don't know who is available but at a minimum there are the 3+ biggies I'd add.

I don't want to sign a FA... just for the sake of signing a FA vet,, a lot is gonna be who and what quality that FA vet is.
we've already had our fair share of JAG vets and filler body parts here. That was the Marinelli effect.
Just getting cheap run of the mill JAGs and expecting to have a big impact. Low regards for 1 tech DTs.
Never drafting a big body difference maker in the early or mid rounds.

You may see Cowboys collecting cheap FAs as depth and rotation guys, but if you want to get the big difference makers.
That's gonna have to come in either the early round of the draft, ..or signing a big contract to a heralded name FA.

I see some mentioning Chiefs all star stud DT Chris Jones (whom I really hoped Trysten Hill would be a version of)
but lets get real, you know the Chiefs are either going to re-sign him to a huge big money contract ..or franchise tag him.
And I have now seen Jones stand out in both 3-4 and 4-3 schemes. So he's a flat out stud period.
We wont have a realistic chance at him.

And how has he done since?

As much as we need a DT, I really think cornerback is a bigger need, even if we get Byron Jones re-signed.

I’m aiming high , I’m going after Chris Jones KC DT. He’s an UFA, will cost a lot but I’d give Quinn’s/Crawford’s money to him.

Chris Jones is the player I'd hoped David Irving would become.

The advantage of moving away from Marinelli's scheme is it allows us to have a bigger DT pool to choose from. Unless we go to a 3-4 and need a Gilbert Brown or BJ Rahi at the NT position.

2 of the last 3 year years, the cowboys went DL with their first pick in the draft. Rod can now go be a waste of space elsewhere.

I still have a lot of faith in Hill. A rookie with no coaching could easily make a big stride with some real coaches.

With the hirings of Nolan and Tomsula, its starting to look like we will be adding some beef in the middle of the defense. Who is out that we should be looking at, be it via FA or the draft?
Last off-season the Saints signed DT M.Brown for 5M per (3 years, 15M). That type of signing would be good for the Cowboys this off-season.

Danny Shelton, defensive tackle, New England Patriots

that is why we see this front office go after affordable options in free agency, as opposed to big names. One player that fits the bill is defensive tackle Danny Shelton. He would be a cheap option for Dallas, and his production against the run would be a welcome addition to this defensive line.
