BEREA, Ohio -- The Cleveland Browns are planning to hire Vikings offensive coordinator Kevin Stefanski as their head coach, a source confirmed to ESPN.

Stefanski, 37, will replace Freddie Kitchens, whom the Browns fired on Dec. 29 after only one season and a 6-10 record. Stefanski was a finalist for the Cleveland job last year, as well, before the team promoted Kitchens from interim offensive coordinator instead.

The Vikings fell 27-10 to the San Francisco 49ers in the divisional playoffs on Saturday, clearing the way for Cleveland to officially move forward with Stefanski.

The Browns met with eight candidates, including 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh. They also interviewed Mike McCarthy, whom the Dallas Cowboys later hired to be their head coach, Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Greg Roman, Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz and New England Patriots offensive Josh McDaniels.

he had a poor game yesterday but i would blame Cousins more,he should have checked out of so many run plays when the box was stacked.

a little surprising that McDaniels didn't get that job...looks like what he did to the Colts is coming back to haunt him, if you can't land the Browns job

For holding the play sheet for Andy Reid?

He needs to go somewhere where he can call plays first.
I get it.
Though Reed says he DOES call a large share of the plays now.

But when Joe Judge makes the jump from Special teams coach to HC, well, I suspect Bieniemy is at least that qualified.
Judge may be the next superstar. You never know.

Was just a wish for Eric B. not a complaint.

I think the problem is that he is not really the OC.
so?a ST/WR coach from NE got the job... hes been a good student in a sleek hot rod offense, he should get a chance..you get oddball hiring's all over like Kitchens last year and now Judge this year..

Remember a month ago when thread after thread of debates here were all about Urban Meyer?

Nobody has interviewed him yet.

Someone said, and I agree now, that Meyer is more interested in being courted, than actually coaching again. The guy has to find a way to feed his voracious ego.

Patriots assistants are a hot commodity and as long as Belichick is there that will not change.

I know nothing at all about Judge.

That was me

If Urban was truly interested in coaching again, he would have let Jerry know.

We can't talk...

Because we got the most coveted head coaching candidate available this year? Or because he's built a stud staff (presumably)?

Or is this more because people want to continue to be negative about the past instead of hopeful for the future?

If he was truly interested, he'd had an NFL job already.

I have no idea why the Browns would hire Stefanski over McDaniels especially after how inept the Vikings offense looked yesterday. But then again, it's the Browns...
