TENN: Jurrell Casey, one of the best.
KC: Chris Jones, one of the best
SF: DeForest Buckner, one of the best
GB: Kenny Clark, one of the best

And the rest of their rosters are just full of quality DT's/3-4 DE's. It's just so hard to stop opposing QB's w/o interior pocket push. Our JAG's are not getting the job done. Fix it, Jerry.

Couldn't agree with you more. I think the cowboys do value the position but overvalue their ability to evaluate talent. They likely think they can find the next Jay Ratliff without investing high picks or big money. Hopefully McCarthy and his staff will change that

I agree. Remember when we had Russell Maryland. Leon lett, chad henning and Tony Castilla. Even Tampa bay had not only Warren sapp but a first round pick in booger McFarland. So lame how all the sudden dts don’t matter for our team

I'm hoping that philosophy drastically changes in the offseason.

I was listening to Hangin' with the Boys earlier and Nate kept talking about how Nolan loves his "fat boys in the middle".

Yep. And they were all taken with high draft picks. Buckner & Clark were 1st rounders. Chris Jones was a 2nd rounder. Jurrell Casey was a 3rd rounder.

The Cowboys need to prioritize defensive tackles in the premium rounds. I suppose we have in the past, to a degree, because Maliek Collins was a 3rd rounder and Hill was a 2nd rounder. I’d venture to say that our best 2 DT’s in the past 5 years were both undrafted - David Irving and Antwaun Woods.

Gosh, I hope Tomsula can help Trysten Hill. Maybe since we’re getting away from Marinelli’s scheme, Hill can get much stronger and learn to be a space eater. That whole “all DT’s need to have 3-technique traits and stop the run on the way to the QB” crap is too antiquated to work in today’s NFL, imo.

Yeah, I’m hoping Tomsula can develop Hill, get more out of Woods and Collins, and draft a stud. A weakness COULD become a strength.

quality costs

those guys went #37, #7 and # 27

I’m hoping for a CB, S and DT in each of the first three rounds.

I think if anyone can get something out of Hill then it would seem to be Tomsula.

Part of what bothered me so much about Rod was that he'd fight like heck to get "his guys" and then it felt like he'd give up on them shortly after. It's a shame as to how much influence he had in the draft room and how far behind "his guys" set us back after the draft was done.

Maybe that wasn't truly the case but it sure came off that way IMO.

I think they leaned too heavily on the “horse whisperer” BS!

Gets worse next year. Bennett and Collins gone, and the DTs we get won't have Quinn attracting attention.

You know, it’s funny about that. It’s a good TRAIT to have, but it shouldn’t be the foundation and primary measurable for your entire scheme.

I laugh, though, when people suggest Marinelli is a “bum.” He’s a damn good coach, but he’s antiquated and reluctant to adapt. His way worked in the past, but you must evolve. The Flex Defense was better than anything Marinelli ever dreamed of, but you don’t see anyone running The Flex anymore.

Jerry will never understand this. We have been talking about this since the old message boards.

I've been clamoring for years to my friends how idiotic it is for us to just ignore DT like we have. All of the remaining players have pretty good DL's. It astounds me how we continually overlook the importance of a big man/men (collins & wood arent the answer imo) up the middle.

None of these guys are the "trashcan full of dirt" that fans here always clamor for.

Chris Jones 310lb / 6' 6
Buckner 287 lb / 6′ 7
Clark 313 lb / 6' 3
Jurrell Casey. 300 lb 6' 1

agree...ONLY JERRY thought he could reinvent the wheel on D and still win. IT DOESNT WORK THAT WAY JERRY. Football is played up front in the interior. Championships are won up front. Just look at LSU last night....football is STILL football, at any level. MM will give it his best shot at fixing this, I can say that with 100% confidence in the guy. He believes in having those big nasty inside DT's to hold the point.
