IMO, unlikely.

I expect new coach means you spend a year evaluating what you've got instead of making a big splash in free agency.

I disagree.

The biggest priority the Cowboys placed on their search was hiring an experienced head coach. That means that they don't have the patience to try to develop one like they did with Garrett. It also means that they feel that the team they've assembled is capable of winning now. And if that's the case, I expect that they would be aggressive in adding to what they already have rather than taking steps backward and then trying to keep everything together for a few more years.

They have two huge contracts to take care of in Prescott and Cooper, but then they still have a huge amount of cap space remaining with which to aggressively add players. And I expect them to do so, and a more aggressive approach to free agency than we've seen recently.

Unfortunately Jerry already wasted another year to see if Garrett could get it done. Now it’s time to spend. Our window is now.

2019 will go down in Cowboys history as arguably the greatest missed opportunity in franchise history.

JJ wants to win now. McCarthy is chomping at the bit as well. I expect a splash signing or two on the defensive side of the ball to start the offseason off with a bang.

The good news about our roster right now is that it is absolutely set up for an overhaul with as many free agents as we have... we can truly reshape this team this year and turn things over aggressively.

Gonna be a fun year

I agree. I expect a lot more activity than the sitting on their hands they've done for the last few years.

Offense really only needs some tweaks. Bring in a receiving TE and mostly the offense is good to go. They led the league in yards this past season and was one of the best in converting 3rd downs. Now with McCarthy we should see the TDs go up, plus with Fassel I expect special teams to give better field position instead of being dead last. Defense is clearly the weak spot and mostly needs turnovers to be much better.

In a perfect world the defense needs 2 DTs, 1 DE, 2 Ss, 1 CB for depth, 1 LB for depth. Not sure about Quinn or Gregory so they need a starting DE to play along with Scooter Boy. Given all the one year contracts they have no depth on the DL. LBs are a question mark given who the starters are. How can you rely on them? You need at least 3/4 CBs that can play. They are short there. BOTH safeties need to be replaced. Its a ton of work. So many misses at the draft have really hurt - Taco, Hill, Tapper, Jackson, Armstrong, and many of there lower round guys have not panned out at all. Marinelli left this defense in a heap. They have a LOT of work to do.

I think this will the first year in a few years we make the move early to pick up free agents. That was McCarthy gripe with Thompson I think jerry gives him the go ahead.

It's also accurate.

I'm not saying the offense was perfect, but if you compare it to the other two parts of the team in defense and special teams? It's light years ahead of both, and far down on this team's list of issues.

In terms of talent, I agree. It's mainly gameflow and execution that limited the offense. Sloppy turnovers, penalties or obvious playcalling that hurt the most. If that can be cut down, I expect the offense to be fine.

It's not like they don't have the money in FA this year.
I suppose that depends on how we approach our own FA. One of the reasons we have money to spend is a lot of our guys are free agents and the ones we may want to keep are not going to come cheap

as to the original comment about timing, I think our FA and this strategy of early adoption are related.

mid McCarthy has time to get a feel for our current free agents and we can get a consensus on who to keep then how quickly we address our own plqywra will determine what we go after in AA

Moore had the offense ranked 1st in yards and 6th in points, in year one as a playcaller.

He's now being paired with a head coach that had his in the top 10 or better (barring injuries) during virtually his entire run in Green Bay. And even if you consider those as having a huge advantage at the quarterback position, this Cowboys team still has more overall proven offensive talent than those Packers teams did.

In terms of forming a list of things to worry about:
  1. Defense
  2. Special teams
  3. Offense

In offseason, KC, SF and GB knew they had strong offenses but knew they needed to be active in the FIRST WAVE of free agency on defense to put them over the top. KC signed Frank Clark, Tyrann Matthieu, Alex Okafor. SF signed Kwon Alexander (after hitting a home run with Nick Bosa in Draft). GB signed Preston Smith, Zadarius Smith, Adrian Amos... If Jerry truly believes this roster is ready for a deep playoff run, we need to learn a lesson and do the same. No more penny pinching this year in second wave. In first wave of free agency, sign a DT, NT, S, and resign Quinn.

If MM says "I like our guys", I'm gonna lose it. lol

NOT-PLAYOFF-QUALITY

I don't care how you rank the team's issues, it remains a fatal flaw.

if they are forced to pay Dak and Amari and possibly jones, good luck with that..lol

KC defense most of the season has been very average, your premise is flawed, they survived because of an unstoppable offense and great coaching..the defense was up and down..i mean they gave up 24 and 17 FIRST QTR points in the freaking playoffs..

how do you figure its fixed..No Mahomes and that offense overcame that defense..sure thy made few plays but no way Sanfrans best move was sanders and that was at the trade deasdline.and GB what happened in the NFCCG?. I get your point but we did pretty well in FA this past year..

I rather go have strong draft and fill in with solid FAs but not overpaid types..it seldom works out..

you forget these teams especially sanfran 4 terrible years that got them a windfall of Draft PICKS.. it didnt happen overnight..how long will they be around, the rams did it then what? sure go try and get some great FAS but you have to be smart about it, dream teams on paper can fail as well..
