WOW! Just what the doctor ordered.

FRISCO - The Dallas Cowboys have traditionally tried to "get by'' at safety, opting to use salary-cap money and other resources on other "more important'' positions. Maybe, with new coach Mike McCarthy pitching in his thoughts to personnel boss Will McClay, that's about to change.

The Cowboys, according to the very reliable Dane Brugler of The Athletic, are projected to select LSU safety Grant Delpit with their first pick, at No. 17, in the 2020 NFL Draft.

I respect Brugler as much as anyone that covers the draft.

If he likes Delpit, I'm in...just need to use him the right way.

Delpit is a hard prospect to evaluate because 2018 he looked like a definite top 10 pick and this year he didn’t look like the same player. He was injured for a good portion of time, so that
Ikely played a part. I’m of the opinion that we need to build front to back. Derwin James I wanted because he was special. Don’t quite see that in Delpit.

James and Delpit are two different kinds of players. Delpit is more like Minkah Fitzpatrick

Man, only if this guy can stay healthy I would be that much more amped if he’s the pick. He definitely needs to gain some weight at 6’3” 203 lbs
:omg:

We’ve got monster rbs and tight ends in the league. His body needs to hold up. With every tackle, I just hope he gets up.

I’d be excited regardless but definitely with my foot hovering over the brakes

What reach? I said if the talent is there.
Thats how we reached for Taco. In 2017 we had higher rated CB's, but we wanted a DE. We took Taco over higher rated players because we felt better about getting a CB in the 2nd than we did a DE. We got specific in the position we were targeting, and we reached.

I think kinlaw is probably the last DT I’d go with
After that the talent is probably going to be safety or CB
We need Tua to check out perfect and Love to light up the SR bowl so more QB can go in top half

You aren't reading what he's saying.

He's saying if there is a CB or DL there that is worthy of the 17th pick, he'd rather go that way. He's not suggesting we take a DL or CB for craps and giggles at 17 if there isn't one rated there on our board.

I did. I just came off dickish, like he was wrong. He's not. I just think it is dangerous to get specific in regards to drafting, as sometimes it can lead to you reaching. Especially in the first round, you want a wide net

Yeah I don't think he was saying we had to go DL or CB there. I think he was basically saying that he hopes there is a DT or CB there worthy of the pick.
