I'm really hoping we are all blown away at the approach Dallas takes this year in FA and the draft. Maybe the FO has finally learned their lesson!?

if this finally happens big in FA, per Stephen Jones. I will definitely know how huge an impact McCarthy's presence is absolutely setting the stage here, and he is able to
bend and re-shape all previous management philosophies and firm stances here.

Finished 8th in ypa so that's a weird take.
Actually after their week 13 loss to the bears, the cowboys defense ranked seventeenth against the run .the next game against the rams ,they held gurley to nine yards rushing
And the cowboys defense jumped up five spots to number 12 ranked run defense.however the rams rushing offense ranked twenty first , Todd Gurley didnt rush for a hundred yards in a single game last season, and the rams lost several starters on their o line over the offseason. I bring this up because I think using a statistical ranking isnt a reliable or accurate way to assess the defense. Statistics are circumstantial. Their are also other sources such as
Football outsiders that had the cowboys defense ranked I believe in the teens in runs up the middle.the packers were able to beat the cowboys because Aaron jones rushed four four touchdowns, not because of Aaron rodgers.

They're also circumstantial for every team above and below the Cowboys.

I don't think the run defense was great. But relative to the rest of the league, it was good. That matters.

So why you you opposed to the cowboysto adding depth or possibly upgrading at defensive tackle? Woods missed five games last season and has a history with injuries going back to his time at USC. It is likely one of the reasons he was a udfa.

I like dj reader but he will likely cost too much to sign. Michael pierce could be a good signing

I'm not opposed to it.

I just don't think a backup 1T makes any difference, and I don't think there's any value in giving big money to a run stuffer. You want to sign Billings for $2m to split with Woods? Fine. It will have no impact on the defense.

I'm not saying I'm in favor of signing billings or another expensive free agent dt like Dj reader. I'm simply talking about churning the roster and trying to creating a solid rotation with woods or possible upgrade.

Well, I AM saying the Cowboys SHOULD sign a great tackle like DJ Reader. When you build a championship team, you don't skimp in the trenches.

My point is just that the DL, including the DTs, is good. Could you get better depth - sure, every team in the league could.

But there's this prevailing thought that adding run stuffing DTs is going to completely change this defense and solve all of the problems. It's not even close to true. Switching to those types is going to make the defense worse.

McCarthy has never had a team be players in free agency.

Ummm, how exactly did the 49'ers beat GB? With those 8 pass attempts?

First drive: 3 runs, 3 and out
Second drive: 1st play, 16-yard pass. 3rd play, 30-yard pass.

GB never committed to defending the run only b/c they knew they were going to get torched through the air

Or how did the Titans manage to get much further than we did......it ain’t because of Tannenhill.
No, it's b/c they committed to a heavy play-action offense that killed teams when they overcommitted to the run. That team goes nowhere if they can't throw the ball.

Man how do you think play action works? Why were they biting on play action?

Absolutely 0 correlation between run success and play action success.

Also, the Patriots, for example, didn't bite on it, and the Titans offense was horrible. A good run game doesn't matter.
