Agree 100%......not sure what more he can do. Sure he's not the blocking TE you'd like but neither is 80% of NFL starting TEs. Remember Martellius Bennett saying he couldn't block worth a crap his first couple years in the league but it quickly became apparent to him playing behind Witten, that's the only way he was going to get on the field. So it's something focus and worked on. My point, I'm sure Jarwin can become a much better blocking TE coach him up. Just me, but he has the potential to be right there with the top 10 TEs in the league ( speed, huge hands, wide catch range, leaping ability). Just think this may be one of those cases where we could very have the best guy if we work with him and give him a chance.
Some guys are not big blockers - I don’t think Jay Novachek was a big blocker and was more of a position shielder
That previous coaching staff were prominent on what that Garrett preference in the offense has been doing for years and saw Jarwin’s blocking as too much of a minus.
By Garrett’s standard, Jarwin needed to be Hanna or Swaim if he wanted to take more to the 2 TE package, and if he wasn’t, he have to take less snaps on the field and be more played in spots and occasions
The Witten return was a huge setback for Jarwin in the number of reps and snaps, imo. The minute he arrived back, I knew the supposed " 20% snaps " that was being generated in speculation, was never gonna happen with the competitive Witten, ..and with Garrett way too set in his own way, he was not gonna stand in Witten’s way, and didn’t want to coach around him or be without him.
There’s no telling how many plays were left off the field and could have played a factor with the more athletic Jarwin in. And it wasn’t that Jarwin was so special, but more so the decline of Witten
was such that he couldn’t make certain big plays
That was being needed from the lead TE role. And more so than this sporadic spots and occasions.
