Well, obviously you'd go this route if you don't think Dak is your longterm guy. If you do genuinely believe he's your future, 40m$ a year may be inevitable with how the cap is going up. Otherwise you can still trade Dak the next year while holding his 2nd franchised rights and likely get a similar haul.

You also delay getting assets, meaning those assets wont mature into quality on field talent for another. If you plan to move on from Dak and draft Tua, you trade Dak now and sign a stop gap. Holding Dak, you also risk a Drew Bree's shoulder situation

well, this is under the assumption Tua won’t be able to lead a playoff contender year 1. You ‘Mahomes’ him, keep a lame duck pro bowl caliber QB around 1more year for Tua to learn from and your team still contends until it’s Tua time. The blueprint is there in KC
