I just find it incredibly stupid to keep asking Dak for a discount every few months when the price on quality QBs go up every few months.

They aren’t asking him to take a hometown discount though. They literally offered him the same amount Goff/Wentz got, which he himself said he is expecting because he said he hasn’t done enough to be the highest paid. The only thing they disagree on is structure and length. He isn’t being lowballed. I don’t know why everyone’s saying “Hes not taking a hometown discount!” When the Joneses haven’t even offered a hometown discount amount.

How is paying the best running back in football a mistake? Have you ever looked at the structure of Zeke's contract - it's brilliant on the Cowboys part.
Zeke isn’t the best RB in football. He was in 2016 but wasn’t in 2017-2019. He should have been but he wasn’t.

Do we know what the details are of the stalled negotiations?

I haven’t seen specifics. Difficult to access situation without details.

Yet the usual haters are saying about Dak that he doesn’t care about the team and it’s just about the money grab for him.

We are assuming Dak has turned down offers. We just don’t know specifically what they are.

We have some ideas based on rumors. Probably in the low 30 million range but again nothing specific.

At some point the details will leak out.

I simply don't value that position and feel that it's the easiest one to fill with a rookie. Nothing against Zeke, he's a great player, but the gap on his impact vs. a second, third, or even fourth round pick doesn't justify the contract.

I mean I agree, but we don't really know if that's the case. If they were at $34m or so before the season, that's not much of a discount.

Dak seems to be playing just as much hardball as they are.

Why can't the Dak suck-ups figure out paying everybody what they want don't work?

Some thoughts on this.

How do we know who is disrespecting whom without knowing what each side is demanding? If Dak is asking for $40 million then its on him. He is not worth $40 million and he is being unreasonable if this is the case. If Dak is asking for $35 million and Jerry is balking at that, then I think Jerry is disrespecting Dak. He is saying Dak is not really the franchise QB Jerry proclaims publicly. But we don't know what each side is saying so we cannot judge who is right or wrong.

A franchise designation does not mean Jerry is disrespecting Dak. I could just mean he does not want Dak to leave. If there is no agreement (see my first point), then Jerry has no choice but to put the franchise tag on Dak. Jerry cannot let Dak get away because he has no other option at QB. Dak leaving sends this team into disarray.

From Jerry's point of view, its more complicated than what Dak is worth. Jerry has to keep his other free agents in mind. If he gives Dak $40 million then Cooper may ask for $20 million. Jerry has other free agents that he may want to sign. He wants fair deals from everyone. He wants to keep his team relatively intact and also leave room to sign Free Agents to improve his team. If there was no cap, I am pretty sure Jerry "money bags" Jones would give Dak the $40 million and get this done. Its easy for guys on the radio to spew nonsense when they don't have to worry about 53 players.

As much as I think Dak is a really good QB, I don't think he has leverage here. If somehow (and I know it's a team game) he lead the Cowboys to a division crown at least, he'd be standing on firmer ground.

The problem is that there is not a better alternative for Jerry to have in his back pocket should the negotiations crumble and Dak holds out.

Believe it or not, Dallas is in the same situation as Tampa Bay is with Winston. The dollar figures may be different, but the decision isn't any easier for either team.

Does Bucky know the details of the offers and counteroffers? If not, he doesn't know anything.

Right. What does "Bucky" know about anything.

This is what happens when a player and team discuss contract terms: Dak's guys are talking to the Jones; the Jones are listening to their cap experts; the agents are talking to other agents; and, they are all trying to figure out Dak's market value and how much the Cowboys are willing to pay. It's called negotiating.
