Clowney or Griffin will be stud in Dallas.
Why? Because the star on our helmet gives super powers?? Clowney has been a disappointment since he came into the league and Griffin is a rich man's Crawford. Neither has done squat for the last couple of years... at least not enough to account for what they will want to be paid. I agree with the poster about drafting the best rusher (edge or interior) and let Crawford and/or Gregory be a placeholder until the youngun is ready.

As of right now it would be Crawford and potentially Randy Gregory. Someone posted earlier ‘why haven't the Cowboys cut Crawford’, I haven’t opened the thread but thats why - currently he’s really all we have.

Would you consider a 0 sack guy from the position a "RDE option"?

Because that's what Crawford 'brings you'.

But as for not opening that thread? You're probably better off!

No to Griffen he's a headache. You know what I would do ? Just as well.im not running this ship !
I'd sign Dak tonight, 4 years 35 million per. If they wait till Mahomes resets the QB market we are screwed.
Take that money and sign Clowney. Him on one side r and let's and Lawrence on the other .... come on. Big contract no doubt and would also cost us one of the 3rd round compensatory pics next year, but damm. Get Kinlaw next to McCoy, 2nd round best CB, 3rd round best Safety. Fill out roster...

Clowney and those 3 sacks worth $20 million-plus a year to you?

Griffen has been a Pro Bowler for 4 of the last 5 years.

I think we are gonna draft an edge guy now. Cameron Wake would be a guy I kick the tires on IF he is available. Dude is a stud, even at 38. Just maybe get him on a 1 or 2 year deal on the cheap. BRIDGE PLAYER LIKE MCCOY. I got no problem with that.

I’d much rather a guy that can and will stop the run & put pressure on the QB over a guy that gets 10 or 11 sacks and is one of the worst DE’s in the universe vs. the run. Quinn accomplished his goal and got his big contract because people are so enamored with sacks. I just don’t think sacks are nearly as meaningful as they once were because teams air it out way more than ever. Nevertheless, no I don’t think Crawford is the answer - I’ve wanted to get rid of him for 2 years, but currently he’s the only option.

I think they may put a call into clowney now that his price is so high and he’s willing to take shorter term deal and less money to cash in again soon. I doubt we get him but might as well kick the tires since he’s not getting big offers like he expected

Who's that guy?

Considering the fact that Quinn just got a 5-year, $70 million contract at his age, based on those sacks, it's clear that those inside the NFL completely disagree with you.

The fact is that what gets defensive players paid are game-changing plays - sacks and turnovers. Sacks for linemen, INT's for defensive backs. Oversimplistic to some extent? Sure, but true nonetheless.

Nevertheless, no I don’t think Crawford is the answer - I’ve wanted to get rid of him for 2 years, but currently he’s the only option.

He's no option at RDE at all, unless you want both poor run play and zero sacks from your RDE position. They're better off going with literally anyone else on the roster. Dorance Armstrong, Joe Jackson, Jaylon Jelks, anybody. At least none of them are proven failures out there yet.

Gregory, Crawford, Armstrong, Jackson, Jelks. It could be worse.

I would like to see the remaining cap used in the following ways.

Trade the 5th rd comp pick to Minny for S Harris.
Sign Billings at 1T
Sign Breshad Perriman WR

That DE depth chart is blah.

That DE depth chart is blah.

I think using the term "blah" is being kind.

They need a starter opposite Lawrence, and hoping Gregory can get reinstated and remember how to play football again ain't it.

They were talking to Quinn about a return so they clearly had some money budgeted. Time to talk to Griffen about some numbers.

Why wouldn't they count on a guy whose been out for two years and in 28 games played has a grand total of 7 sacks?

I don't know. Seems like a solid plan to me.

Some people mistakenly think that the new rules give past suspended player like Gregory and Josh Gordon amnesty to now do whatever they want. Those people are wrong.

Everson Griffen or Markus Golden would be a major upgrade over Quinn.

Your point about Quinn getting a 5 year/70m contract and saying my opinion is wrong because ‘nfl insiders are smarter than me because they do this for a living’ is pretty funny because GMs get things wrong more than they get things right. I watched every snap of every cowboys game last year and I along with several others know what we saw, but you and I have been going back and forth over Quinn for over a week now. I get you think he’s worth that 5yr/70m contract but I couldn’t disagree more. I guarantee he won’t last 2 years before getting cut, dude is TRASH and unplayable vs. the run. If we play Chicago I would run Zeke and pollard right at him and they’d probably get 400+ yards & I’m not exaggerating... he’s that bad.

I agree with you on Crawford, we need to upgrade that position ASAP and spend that $8mil somewhere else. I’ve wanted him gone for 2 years.
