We have 3 guys who can play C: McGovern, Looney, and Redmond. Most likely they plan on McGovern at C.

The other positions have starters, and we're just looking at depth now. Could take a CB in the 1st to start. I don't see it at other positions.

We have no idea if Redmond or McGovern can play center at an NFL level. When I say we're thin, I mean in terms of proven ability. I hope McGovern takes the starting gig and runs with it, but we just don't know yet.

Ya man, and that's why you invest draft picks there,, at least this team has been smart about that.
Sucks loosing such a warrior like Beard, wish him the best, but this roster is better prepared to sustain a major loss like TFred than nearly any other roster in the entire league.
Makes you wonder if the FO actually had a little concern,, they did IMHO.

There's a broad range between "no idea" and "proof".

If we drafted McGovern this draft, we'd still be penciling him in as the starter, with Looney as the backup plan. We'll pencil him in a little darker having seen him for the last year.

You never know about young guys. You don't know if old guys will still have it either.

We'll know more when the front office has something to say about plans for C.

I'm sure they give McGovern the nod over Looney if it's close. Better to develop the young guy we own cheap for the next 3 years. They didn't even give a thought to Looney as LG. They like him as an experienced backup for 3 spots.
We are set on LG yet are we? One of the two could end up there. Of course Conner Williams is also in that mix. I suspect they will go to training camp with an open mind about how to fill those spots and see who proves to be the best fit where.

The Cowboys style is to at least plug every hole with a JAG in free agency, so they're not tied into a corner when the draft happens.

With DE, I'd love to have Everson Griffin and think he could absolutely be this year's Robert Quinn, but we'll have to see what will happen. A more affordable placeholder there might be Jabaal Sheard on a 1 year deal.

Slot WR is also a problem too. Jason Garrett and co seemed to hate Devin Smith, and we have nothing behind him. Some cheap names there might be Justin Hardy or Jakeem Grant.

Between Looney and McGovern, I think the team is set at center and I don't see any panic moves happening there. Seeing Looney play decently for all of 2018 really helps build some confidence there.

I doubt that line calls, perfect snaps and then blocking way too much IFs for MCgoivern, close means bad snaps that can vcost us close games...we dont need sailing balls..we dont have otas or Mcs to even train these guys and who know short PS or none? think of the times we are in Looney doesnt need practice..he gets the nod if its close but Conner gets backup role at C but competes at LG with Cwill..dude was on ir all last year..hes not ready

yeh ,if it's close they'll lean towards longer term investment McGovern.
But being a rookie with no work in pads, will they work McGovern exclusively at center in camp which would really be his rookie year all over again? or switch him back and forth between center and OG (which i would be against)

but i'm sure they would like McGovern to earn that starting nod over Looney,.. it's one thing to be able to play center... its' another thing to be able to excel at it.

Ron Leary on the cheap please.

Used to playing next to Tyron.

Will make the McG to C conversion more smooth.

It's an amazing coincidence that I was just about to add Ron Leary's name.
:omg:

Bringing Leary back gives the team a proven option in the mix at left guard. I honestly think that Connor McGovern is now out of the mix at that spot and I think it will be a competition between he and Looney at center given Frederick's retirement. And what you do not want to do is to put all your eggs in Connor Williams basket at left guard, certainly not if you're then going to start a second year player at center. Leary would provide some veteran stability and experience (for as long as he lasts anyway).

I think bringing Leary back would be a good way for the team to cover themselves.

Leary lives in Dallas, I don't see him getting any big money offers, and would probably come back for 1yr/2-3m.

Team would be crazy not to do it, but I doubt they do.

They will continue to skimp on K and QB2 also.

He would bring power and stability to the left guard position that we currently lack.

And if the team went with Looney at center, the dropoff in power there would be huge as well.

When people wonder why we were so bad in short yardage, goalline, and red zone in 2018, look no further than those two positions and who was playing there.

I second this. Who knows, maybe Leary gets done when Dak does since they have the same agent. He could be a cheap throw in? :p With France though, nothing is cheap.

My other hope is to get Golden which would weaken a conference opponent and solidify the DE position before the draft.

I would hope Griffen would be our main objective to secure the end position in case Gregory is not a sure thing. I agree with the thinking on Leary too. I was interested in them bringing him in before Frederick retired. Back then it was just because I was ready for Connor to move to swing tackle. Now it is even more important so we can let McGovern/Looney/Redman sort out the center spot.

There could be some more movement for DT with the market, but I seriously doubt it,,, and I can be as wrong as anyone, but when I take a look at the roster right now, and how deep the draft is with some really nice talent this year for DL,, guys like Madabuike, Blacklock, Davidson, Davis, Gallimore, Elliot.... etc... on and on... can be had after Brown and Kinlaw are off the board.
So just saying that this draft is deep enough that just because we don't come away with one at 17, there are players in this rookie class that can come in and probably beat out Crawford,, maybe why there is hesitation with a restructure, or cut like some here would prefer.
This overall draft is really suited for this teams major needs this year,, considering now how the DL is shaping up, would you be upset coming away with our first two picks overall being DBs. ?
Any Combination... CB/S CB/LB CB/CB … even S/S … I know I referenced DBs only,, but back 7 meaning even a LB would be nice as well, but the Cowboys could even eliminate that need if they would just pursue Alec Ogletree,, instant fit and can cover TEs better than any LBr in the league.

My opinion is that - for right or wrong - the Cowboys feel that Forbath is their guy. They've likely paid him something in that new contract so I wouldn't expect them to go pout and double-dip and then to pay Zuerlein several million dollars more on top of that. I expect that they're done at kicker unless they sign an undrafted free agent after the draft.
Cmon man,,, just say it,,, rub my belly.
