I don't know if Gregory wasn't, or still cant be,, but Smith just broke out of the gate immediately and become dominant,, I don't have an issue with either being on this roster at least for a look.

So you just didn't understand what he was saying. That's not surprising.

He compared their off field issues in defense of Gregory. The problem is they aren't the same player. One was actually good. The other was just a pot smoking roster filler. So it's completely irrelevant to compare them in any way, shape or form.

With Jim Tomsula here, I think it's probably more about him wanting to give a player who was a star under him another shot. You know, though, it doesn't take much to convince Jerry in these situations.

I'd be a lot more concerned if it was just some player the Joneses targeted who had no ties to this coaching staff.

I hear Aldon Smith's contract is a $2M base with $2M in incentives. Who can complain about that?

Crawford should get about the same contract. I am thinking $1M base with $3M in incentives.

If you take Randy Gregory's career year and multiply it by 3 you're in Aldon's territory.

Having said that I wouldn't invest the time in either one.

I survived the earthquake in Idaho last night....only to have this rock my world. Aldon Smith had 19.5 sacks in 2012. Nine freaking seasons ago....yet someone still thinks he has potential.

Why the **** did we have to pony up $4M though?

2 million dollar base and 2 million dollars in incentives if he reaches performance goals. That doesn't sound outrageous especially if he comes through. I am sure the team has done some homework on him and with a helping perspective from Tomsula who is on our coaching staff.

I wouldn't mind that if we came away with Okudah or Henderson,, that's the value at 17 in this draft,, you better grab a top CB and I doubt Okudah would be there, but Ive been shocked before.
