Point being, this team is not likely going to rely on one of the incumbents (C. Wilson, D. Smith, etc.) on the depth chart to step up and man the #3 spot. Rather, they are going to draft the team’s new slot.

Who do you think that should be?

Never a remote chance McCarthy goes from expecting Cobb at #3 to wringing his hands every week deciding between the guys mentioned above or worse, as much as he goes 3+ WR sets. They're definitely hunting for a guy in this draft who will be top 3 on the depth chart. Depending who is on the board, i would not mind if a WR is taken as early as 17. Ideally you get a WR at 51 who is not slot/gadget route specific and can line up outside if needed.

drafting one at 17 would be so dumb. even if it is Lamb

I would agree. We can get a really nice WR with the #2 pick if need be. Probably #3. We already have two pretty good WRs. But there is a case for WR at 17 depending on how it plays out. If Lamb was available, ask yourself why? Maybe there isn't another good choice? What if Henderson, Kinlaw, McKinney, and Chaisson are all gone? Lamb or Ruggs is still there. Who do we take? Trade down is the other option.

There’s no doubt we’re drafting a WR and relatively high based on some of the recent interviews we’ve conducted.

Mims, Higgins, Reagor, and I’m sure more to come as we get closer.

All of these guys are Top 100 guys. I’d argue Mims has a chance of going late R1, Reagor is a solid R2, as is Higgins (though I think there’s aN outside chance he could drop to early R3).

I've been hearing 35 to 40 wr will be drafted

If available, I can see Pittman as our second rounder.

I dont agree with any scenario where we draft one with the first pick. Do we even have an identity? I thought we were a running team. Now we want 3 starting caliber receivers? smh

Reagor makes the most sense, IMO. He’s not a “big slot”, but he high-points the ball like he is.

He’s one of my favorite WRs in the draft. I know I’ll get flack for saying this but I’d take him over Ruggs without hesitation. Just not at 17.

I presented a situation. Go ahead and tell me who you would draft in that circumstance. And no, we don't have an identity.

I agree, that we will in all probability draft a WR in the Top # 100.
I am not on board at # 17 however. 2nd or 3rd round - have at it. I would prefer a 3rd rounder, but could live with someone at # 51 if it's best value.
Pity we dont have all next years Comp. Picks this year, to really round out the roster. And I would prefer both 1st and 2nd rounds on defense, but yes, it will depend on how it all unfolds.

Trade down and take the best corner to come in day 1 to start and beat out Anthony Brown.

I agree. That's fine. I'd rather do that too. But Dallas may not want to trade back. If they don't, they'd have to pick a WR. Or OL if one presents itself.

They should not target a "Slot WR" in the top 3 rounds. They should draft the best possible WR.

In fact, they have several players already that are options at Slot WR or Slot WR by committee but not much of anything in terms of depth behind the 2 starting outside WRs.

They can also draft a more typical Slot WR (small & quick) in rounds 4 to 7.

If they were desperate at slot WR they should re-sign Tavon Austin.

I agree. If we're drafting a WR early, draft someone you think can play outside and inside and has the potential to replace Cooper / Gallup when their contracts are expiring.

We discussed this the other day, and I think it is key to find a guy who can do both allowing Amari to do both. We just signed Amari to a $100 million dollar contract, and we cannot afford him to go M.I.A in games, so moving him around and creating mismatches is key for this team.

Reagor, Aiyuk, and Pittman JR give you the versatility to play inside and outside and with either one of them plus Gallup and Cooper you have a 3 headed monster at WR for Dak and your running game. I will say Pittman JR would be the ideal pick of the 3 because of his size being a redzone target, but also his ability to block very well will help the running game and could also be a key contributor on special teams.

3 of my favorites. I think people are sleeping on Aiyuk. He might go 1st round in other drafts and gives me Brandon Cooks vibes.

Exactly how I see him too, maybe not as fast but not too far from it.

Raegor, Pittman and Aiuyk all guys you'd be good with in the 2nd? I'm thinking I'd be ok with all in the order of Raegor, Pitt and Aiyuk.
