The "Elite Squad" Philosophy

Bill Parcells was a big proponent of this idea.

Basically, lets say that you have a particular squad of either the offense or defense that is considered to be the best in the league. Normally, then, you would work to improve other squads on the team that were less talented.

According to this philosophy, you do the opposite . You keep adding talent to your best squad even if they are going to see minimum time on the field at first. By enhancing your best squad you make it bust proof, injury proof. Even if you lose one of your best starters there is elite talent next in line. You arent replacing an All Pro with a 7th round draft pick or rookie free agent. Instead, you put in a high draft pick or productive veteran that would normally have started on any other team.

This forces opponent coordinators to respect that squad to the point that they must dedicate additional valuable time and resources to gameplanning that squad, thus providing relief to the other less talented squads.

in the case of the 80's Giants we are talking about their 3-4 linebackers. They had two future Hall of Famers in Lawrence and Carson, another Pro Bowler in Banks, a solid veteran starter in Reasons, a veteran backup in Byron Hunt and what do they do? They take a high draft pick, I think 2nd round, and they take Pepper Johnson.

It worked because that was one of the most feared squads in NFL history as they proceeded to win two Super Bowls.

I mention this because I think the Cowboys could develop a WR squad so talented that it couldnt help but take attention away from the running game.....which is saying a lot.

The Cowboys are on the verge of developing the type of "pick your poison" offense that truly gives DC's nightmares. Adding our #1 draft pick to last season's #1 offense in yardage will have a chilling effect on opponent defenses.

Ceedee Lamb will pay dividends. Our offense is going to be a blast to watch. Juggernaut status.

I agree with this as well. We already have a good line. We have an elite RB. Now we have three WR who will be difficult to cover. I also think this makes Zeke a better runner as he will be able to run out of 11 personel and less men in the box. It makes our offense very dangerous.
