LVE was BPA. So was Taco, pretty much, we just got wiped out in 2017.

I remember them saying they had a 2nd round grade on McGovern and using the “blinking light” phrase they just used again yesterday on Lamb. I don’t remember them saying they had him higher than Hill, though. I do remember they took him even though he wasn’t a need because he was an obvious BPA.

It was on the draft show they said McGovern was higher than Hill on the Cowboys board but they took Hill because he was the last guy they felt could be a good 3T. Then with Watt they didn’t even consider him because they didn’t consider him a scheme fit.

Really I’m just saying 2016 was great but since then JG & Co drafted terribly

There were some attributes that Garrett emphasized a little more but the draft picks were always a hodge podge of what the Coaches, scouts, and Jones valued.

Garrett would have loved Lamb, it would give him another excuse to ignore the running game, despite the talent level of the RB's the superior run blocking of the line, and the skill set of a QB that favored a controlled passing game combined with a running threat.

One of the biggest issues with Garrett was that he tried to turn players into something they weren't instead of gameplanning to their abilities.

Garrett was mediocre all around. He expected and desired mediocrity. Therefore, he would have expected less from his scouts. The board may have been different.

Also, Garrett loves to gift player starting spots and doesn’t want to rock the boat. I doubt CD would have been the pick with Cooper and Gallup. Maybe we would have taken that TE (Khmet?) from Notre Dame so that we could run our two TE sets and run the unstoppable play action boot for 5 to the TE to either side.

If Marinelli were still here , he would have insisted on drafting Trysten Hill's brother.............................

Just a topic of conversatio . Glad there is a new direction. Just wish that it started at the top with jer washing his hands of personnel decisions.

Jerry is in his late seventies, has other business interests but he cherishes being the Cowboys owner and figure head GM the most and that is why he still likes to be the spokesperson. Team personnel decisions have been increasingly handled by committee over this past decade. Stephen Jones manages day to day operations and handles acquisitions and seems to be increasing his role as a spokesperson of the team in the media.

In the afterglow of us having made excellent picks in Round 1 thru Round 3 there is so much more to mull over than how Garret would have impacted the draft if he were still head coach of the Dallas Cowboys.

It's about us compelling as someone starting a thread and posters discussing how many Cheerios are in a 12 ounce box.

The same. They drafted their board and they always draft by consensus unless there is a tie, which there clearly wasn’t for any of these picks. Board broke well for them for sure though.
Lol this answer doesn't surprise me. I 100% would have been different with Garrett and bumanelli sniffing around

Garrett didn’t have a say on who his own coaches were or what player even starts much less the draft .

how can people be this wrong, he had a lot of say in the draft room, and it was said he was good at evaluating talent.

How do you see this years draft shaking out? Would lamb be the pick? Diggs in the 2nd?

Just doesnt seem like the usual dallas draft to me.
Under Garrett they drafted a 1st round receiver and second round CBs. This draft happened the way it did this time simply because that’s where the chips fell.

The pick would have been chaisson. More of an immediate need

no it wouldn't, losing Cobb made it a no brainer, Lamb fits a need and he was the best there, just as Dez was when they drafted him.

wr was the biggest need when we took dez. He was our immediate #1 wr. Lamb is #3 out the gate. yes it made sense to us to take lamb and i love the pick but garrett and marinelli suck and would have been pounding the table for chaisson just like they did with taco because of size and traits with zero production

Veterans don't reminisce the horrors of Vietnam. I feel the same way about the Garret years. It was a dark time in the team's history that must be forgotten.

we had needs all over the team when Dez was picked. Lamb isn't a #3...lol he no less than a 2 who will play slot, all 3 of the wrs are interchangeable. Chassion is the one that wouldn't be an immediate starter. he still considered by some as raw with little production. Lamb would've been the pick in any scenario

Trysten hill wasnt drafting the board. They said as much last year. It was a reach for need and backfired.
