New defensive back Daryl Worley can earn up to $3.5 million in the one-year deal he signed with the Cowboys. Worley received a $1 million signing bonus and has a $1.5 million base salary. He can earn up to $500,000 in gameday roster bonuses and $500,000 in playtime incentives. Worley has mostly played cornerback in his career but he has some safety experience.

Wow, more than I expected. I was thinking he was just brought in as vet depth/insurance in case our rookies don't progress as planned, but I think it's safe to say he'll be on the team this year and playing (at least some) on Sundays.

Canady was also brought in with 2 good rookies added to the mix makes me excited for the competition. Awuzie and Lewis should be a little nervous.
I would say 1 CB between Awuzie, Robinson and Worley will definitely be moved to S.

An under-whelming signing. Maybe Al Harris sees some traits he can work with— but he does not seem like much more than a vet insurance policy

I agree. If they were going this route, I would have hoped for a guy like Aqib Talib.

Yeah, but considering that Talib is at the end of his career (who knows, maybe he's already done?), I would think that his asking price wouldn't be that much higher than what they're paying Worley.

played some safety.
theres a word for that.
positionflex.
it lost meaning under garrett.
it'll find its value under McCarthy.

With McCarthy, I think it's going to mean finding the best players for each position. If safety is his best position, then that's where he'll play.

Under Garrett, it often meant playing players out of position. Sure, Crawford can play defensive end, but he should be playing 3-tech. Byron Jones had the ability to play safety, but he should have always been at corner.

Sometimes these things can't be helped because you don't have anyone better to fill the position, but the ideal of position flex is finding out where a player plays his best and putting them there. It's having options for a player because he might be much better, for example, at safety than at corner.

Given that contract, I think they’re planning on either him getting on the field as our SS or getting on the field as a CB once one of the other guys is moved to safety.

so does this count $1.5 million against the cap, $2.5 million or $3.5 million?

His cap hit is equal to his $1m signing bonus, $1.5m base salary, and 15/16 of his $500k game day roster bonus. I'm guessing his play time incentives are NLTBE (Not Likely To Be Earned) so they'll hit next year's cap if achieved. His cap hit is $2,968,750.

A one year signing bonus is aweful big, for a player that wasn't redigned by his last team? I hope they really seen something from this guy that's better than our guys and dtaft choices

There are a lot of players not resigned by their last team. What is your point? That because they weren't signed and kept they must suck?
Not every player can be kept. Some have to go, even replaced by drafted players , what a concept.

I guess we will get 4 comp picks in 2021 because we did not sign those players. They got pretty decent contracts and bonuses.

Could the leftover residue/stank of the “we like our guys” schtick lol...

In the big picture— Chido, Brown, Lewis are ok vets. Not going to a lot of pro bowls— but you can do worse.

Adding Diggs and Robinson brings talent, youth, energy, and a positive scheme fit for what Harris/Nolan want to do.

Then they signed Canady and some other journeyman besides Worley— so really— we have a LOT of bodies to sort through.

I think Talib makes some sense if Chido truly is heading to S, but that just seems like a pipe dream to me.

Phase One of what I consider to be a total face-lift. They're clearly not happy with what they've seen on film and I don't think anyone in the secondary (save for Brown) should be comfortable. I think any and all of them can possibly be replaced.

Yeah, I don't see all of them making it, specifically Canady. He didn;t get much of a signing bonus so it's not much to cut him.

I think Talib makes some sense if Chido truly is heading to S, but that just seems like a pipe dream to me.

Oh yeah, I think this Worley signing takes away any chance of that.

I have to think that they offered this deal to a few guys - like including Dre Kirkpatrick - and Worley is the guy that took it.

Depends if the incentives are seen as likely to be obtained or not.

They want big long armed press CBs. Looks like they re-signed Anthony Brown to man the slot.

He can play outside and inside which helps in case of injury and he was cheap to sign for a few years.

That seems a little rich for my blood.

The timing of the signing and contract indicate he's more than just a camp body. He's expected to compete for meaningful snaps. They've probably been in dialogue for at least a few weeks.

Carroll money. People are making too much of this guy, IMO. The main thing this tells me is that they *don't* plan on starting any of last year's starters. Pen in Brown and Diggs, pencil in Worley as starters. They're hoping someone outplays Worley.

man i dont see this as a good signing,we should have signed a real SS.now we have a bunch of FS and Wilson.

As has been discussed, the team is going to a press man/quarters approach. Meaning all 4 DBs in base defense (and 5 in nickel) have to be able to play press man. So a traditional SS is really obsolete. And a traditional centerfield FS is less important. Much like NE, the defense needs length (to effectively jam at the LOS), man coverage ability, and ball skills. So where NE has guys like Devin McCourty (a converted CB) at FS and Patrick Chung (really a FS) at SS, I suspect we will start the year with some combination of Brown and Worley at CB, Chido and Ha Ha at S. With Lewis coming in at nickel CB. By mid season, Diggs replaces Brown. By end of season, Robinson replaces Worley. I think X Woods may be the odd man out because of his man coverage limitations. Just my opinion.

When you don't resign a three or four year player, they definitely arent viewed by that team as anything special. Otherwise, they'd be getting resigned. We are promising a lot of money to a player that wasn't resigned by his team. That's saying something. It means we are valuing him way over his former team ;). That's the point ! Is he worth it. Secondly,. Your attitude in Ur response is what makes this forum the hateful place it is most days. Does it family allow you to talk to them this way? Do Ur co workers? You know it's possible to discuss sports and other things without being disrespectful and condescending? :). You aren't ever going to make it as a guest on mister Rogers neighborhood this way, or have good relationships with others.

This could actually be a good signing, unlike most free agent CBs the Cowboys pick up.

Dallas will be his 4th team in 5 years, but it's not like he's been dropped by every team. Drafted by Panthers, played there for 2 years then traded to the Eagles in April, who released him a month later. Picked up a week later by the Raiders and started most games for 2 years.

Still only 25 years old.

It doesn't mean they do not SUCK, because they do not retain them after 3 or 4 years. If you do not understand this, then that is not on me.
And what language are you talking about. Wow, must be amazing to have become the forum police so soon. Telling me I have an attitude in my response as if I am a hater. You have a lot to learn dude. So just stop. So take your Mr. Rogers attitude elsewhere.
