Maybe he thought the chance of a holdout here was higher than the chances of winning a job outright with some other teams. Even garbage time for Dalton with our weapons and OL is probably a win for him in FA next year.

I read something similar,,, no attractive offers out there and with the Wuhan thing going on he'd rather be at home in Dallas... It's a smart move really, if he plays he'll have a solid cast around him so he doesn't look bad and, hey, who knows, Dak as the forever starter here isn't a done deal yet.

No. He chose Dallas because he LIVES IN DALLAS.
He didn't want to leave especially with COVID 19.

Cam is awaiting a starting job offer thus he remains a FA.
Dalton knew this was a back up job and was fine with that because it extends his career at home.

I'm not the guy you were responding to, but my thought on this question is we have no idea what Dalton thinks. Hell, we don't even know the circumstances, so how could we speculate on what he thinks. He may have gotten opportunities to compete for the starting job with other teams, or he may not have gotten any such opportunities. I will say it's at least possible that he thinks there is a chance Dak won't get signed, and he might get a chance to start with Dallas. That's at least something. He may not have had that much of a chance other places

Why wouldn’t he? Dak is missing time and there is a dynamic offense to quarterback. Dalton is probably praying that Dak holds out into the season. As a competitor, it’s an opportunity that you take and try to run with. Let it all play out , and have the fans and media worry about and bicker about who should be QB1. Goal is to be QB1.

Dalton already lives in DAL and just got released by CIN. In this stay-at-home world we are now living in, it makes the most sense for him to sign here for a one year deal until this Covid-19 thing is better understood and dealt with. It works out great for everyone. We get quality depth at a critical position. Dalton comes home yet continues to cash NFL checks. That's all this is, people. Unless Dak holds out a few games, Dalton will never get in a game.
