Am I the only one who thinks that the clock’s gonna strike midnight on Brees real soon?

Time catches up to everyone.

Heck, I think Brady’s gonna be a disappointment in Tampa.

I've started every pre-season with pretty high expectations for Dallas - even when I thought just making the playoffs would be tough. This season isn't much different, but I'm not sure which goal I'm expecting.

I have every hope that the coaching changes are going to take us in the right direction. Right now I'm only going off of what I've read about them and I'm still uncertain. I know they can't be as bad as last season's fiasco, but are they who we'll start looking at as being amongst the best in the league?

Well, one thing we have is the history of coaching changes, the last 3 the Cowboys improved the first full year of a coaching change and in a couple of instances, dramatic swings.

I am not sure what that means because I expected an improvement from Campo to Parcells but that one from Parcells to Phillips really caught me off guard. And in every case it then fell to a flat rate. And Parcells and Phillips frustration levels were higher than I'd ever seen with either one. I think they weren't ready for the players run team.

I do expect us to improve and I don't mean just better than 8-8. My hesitation is that I don't know if Nolan is actually any good as a DC - I've heard strong arguments both ways. I'm also not sure if GB's playoff history is because of McCarthy or because of Brett & Aaron. Maybe it's both.

NFC is full of teams that look good on paper but something happens.
Injuries, coach fallout etc...
Atlanta is a good team struck with injuries to key players on defense for example. Losing Neal, among others hurt them.
Saints look good early on then fade.
Dallas found new ways to lose. Poor preparation, timeouts, Garrett, Maher, defense, offense, special teams. Whole team effort.

The facts are that half the playoff field gets overturned every season. Now the field has increased to 7 teams, with just the #1 seed getting the bye. We cannot predict injuries, but here are the most contending teams in the conference:

-Eagles-with better health that have as much talented as any team. Secondary is still a question mark.
-Cowboys-it's all about improving their defense and special teams.
-Saints-probably the most talented roster in the entire league, one of the favorites to win the conference
-Bucs-Brady/Gronk should help, but still have issues on defense.
-Falcons-they gave the top teams fits at the end of the season, fixed pass rush, dark horse contender
-Packers-did very little to improve their roster, Rodgers still there makes them a contender
-Bears-they have everything but a QB. Could Foles turn this team into a contender?
-Vikings-they made sweeping changes throughout their roster, probably take a step back this season
-49ers-favorite to win, but Super Bowl losers tend to take a step back. They are the hunted,
-Seahawks-even not the most talented roster, they are consistent every year, solid playoff contender
-Rams-kind of like the Vikings, made sweeping changes, probably will set them back for this year
-Cardinals-this is another dark horse contender, if they fix their OL, could be dangerous

You can take out the Saints, Eagles, 49ers, Rams, Seahawks, Vikings, & Greenbay. They paid thier QBs so they have no chance. Must be true, I heard it in the Zone

You can see it a little more with Brady with the delivery and zip on the ball but Brees has always played such a novel QB with that standing on his tiptoes to see over the line and then delivers a touch pass. He might be the closest guy to play QB that could match George Blanda's record.

I read an interview with a South DB several years ago and he said Brees is so hard to defend because the DB can't see him most of the time and then the ball is coming out of nowhere so reaction time is shortened. I began to watch for that and saw exactly what he was talking about. Wilson will move around to find a lane and is easier to see but Brees is happy to stay back there and throw strikes and it is impressive to watch his accuracy and his anticipation of where his receiver is going to be. He's as good as it gets.

I do think he will hang it up soon to start his second career on MNF for 15M a year.

He makes mistakes or commits a turnover late in playoff games every year and they lose.

Somehow because of his passing yards and aww shucks attitude he has escaped any criticism for his post season shortcomings.

he is just a swell ol guy I guess who has different standards.

Brady wasnt that good last year in NE - I have my doubts Bucs will be that good this year.

I see dallas as a top 6-7 nfc team. They should for sure make the playoffs with Jerry getting his new bracket in place. Dallas should be good this year but I don't see them as contenders.

you listed 12 of 16 teams , lol you need to narrow it down to which 7 teams will make the playoffs.
I am rooting for Dallas , TB, and 49ers, and I think they will all make the playoffs

I was breaking down the field of possible contenders, left out teams that were highly unlikely to contend. It's the point of discussion who everyone sees as the top 7 teams.

You are already seeing how its going and its going great. Best offseason since I can remember.

Well so far.
From a draft perspective.
From a bring in key free agents.

When they line it up and we see on field results.... Then.
We could make a better judgement.

The Cowboys have too many question marks on defense for me to consider them true contenders at the moment.

Their DL is questionable with the FO relying on Gregory and Smith to make an impact.

The LBs are questionable with LVE’s health and Jaylon being nothing but average.

The CBs are questionable with Byron Jones leaving.

And Mike Nolan isn’t anything special.

well...…….then you can judge him on THAT part of coaching. The side we are seeing now with the draft, FA, getting rid of certain guys, team building. This is the big part of a HC's job that we sorely missed with Garrett.

Garrett was bad at:

-Team building
-Staff building and cohesion
-scheme management
-game day strategy

We are already seeing the first two with MM are going really well.
