There’s no grace period for Mike McCarthy

He knew that coming in so he is fully aware of expectations because non-performance has been laid squarely at the feet of his predecessor by the non-renewal of his contract and the Joneses claiming "it's not our fault, we did our job". Then they go and get him a WR with the 1st pick.

No excuses will be accepted by the fanbase. This is a HC that was fired from his past job and his successor took them to the NFCCG in his first year.

And I think the majority of fans are just like the majority of posters here, the blame falls on coaching, execution doesn't come into play enough. Every play that fails gets questioned but what if the player that didn't make the play made the play? In evaluating play calling, execution should always be the first part scrutinized.

Wanna have some fun? Record a game, watch it and make yourself a list, keeping in mind you may not know if the play was changed by the QB, of plays executed as called, improvised or failed and why it failed like penalty, which will change the play called, player error, etc. I've never seen a coach call a penalty, poorly thrown ball, fumble or pick in my life.

McC was one of my two picks so I can hardly criticize him if this goes off the rails. I still don't think this team has the D necessary to make noise. He will have to coach like every other one has since the good old days and hope his O can cover for his D.

However, can anyone fault the fans for their expectations? The Cowboys are the only team in the league to make 3 coaching changes in a row after a mediocre or poor seasons and return to the playoffs the first full year of the new HC.

Easy conclusion is it had to be the coaching, right? How about the talent laying down on the coaching?

Not a Garrett fan and glad he's gone but a lot of that blame that fell on him last season, and the previous ones, failed to consider player execution strongly enough. I'll bet the same happens for McC should he struggle. Certainly will by the Joneses, couldn't possibly be their fault.

Fewer than 10 wins and a playoff win will likely be considered a disappointment. Cowboys are done celebrating wild card wins.

I agree.

I'm on record in saying that this was a double-digit win team with real coaching if they kept both Cooper and Prescott. I don't anticipate Dak holding out so I'm sticking to that prediction.

The defense may be shaky at times, but we'll see. But I think the pieces are there for a dominant offense scoring right at the top of the league. We may see high scoring games but they're games we should still win.

Grace period? We don't need no stinking grace period. McCarthy's Cowboys are ready to conquer the entire league. Bring it! :flagwave:

I don't agree. It all depends on progress. If the team starts slowly because of the transition, but is hitting on all cylinders at the end of the year, I think McCarthy will be safe. While I want us to be back in the playoffs and looking like a Super Bowl this year, it's all about progress for me. I'm sure McCarthy will be given time to completely shape this team into what it wants. I'm not sure how much, but with the offense he's been given, I can't see more than a three-year window to at least get to the NFC title game.

We have the #9 ranked defense in the league last year that should be a little better and the potentially #1 paid Quarterback in the league. We back!

They gave Jason Garrett a decade, but Mike McCarthy doesn't get a grace period? Seriously?

Ask the last two or three remaining 'Garrettheads'. They continue to make excuses for their departed 'hero' while trying to push some narrative where McCarthy has to win immediately.

Their double-standards are on full display.

The fact is that Big Mike will get at least 3 years to succeed, as he should.

And the good news is that if he fails, he'll actually be held accountable, unlike his predecessor.

If we gave Garrett ten years, it’s only right to give McCarthy, a proven, Super Bowl winning head coach, a little time.

Do you think Garrett inherited a team touted talented enough to contend in 2011 like this team was last year?

If Large Mike takes this team further than we’ve been in last couple decades then he will deservedly receive the accolades. And why results matter.

No, it wasn’t a very talented team besides Romo, Witten, Ware. The usual guys. Garrett and company did indeed improve the roster.

But he never did anything with the talent he acquired.

I’d agree he didn’t do enough assuming we know we should have done more with it which we can’t be absolutely certain of.

I suspect that both Jerry and Stephen are aware that new staffs aren't routinely successful in their 1st year. Most of them average a losing record. Despite that, I wouldn't be surprised if the Cowboys are an exception, since their talent level is better than most of them that hire new staffs. Nevertheless, I expect the Cowboys FO to be patient with MM and his staff in the event things don't go swimmingly in year one. We'll see.

I agree. MM will get at least two years without more success.

It all depends on the defense. The offense is good enough to get this team where they need to be if they have the help of a defense. Too many times we've seen teams just score at will on us. That needs to end. We've made a lot of changes on the D, we just have to hope things play out like we hope.

They hired Nolan to be DC.

He stinks.

Ask Atlanta fans.
