We watched "The Vast of Night" this week on Amazon. This low-budget film was shot just south of DFW in Hillsborough. The performances by the two leading characters were excellent. Their roles and mannerisms were very believable and we enjoyed the film very much. It's a Sci-Fi film, but more of a small-town human study than a bug film. I recommend.

I tried watching Ad Astra last night and after over an hour in just gave up. Not only did I get the purpose, I didn't care what happened. I like Brad Pitt but this was a huge miss for me.
1/10, if I'd stopped watching it after 15 minutes, the score would be higher but it just kept dropping the longer I watched it, - numbers were starting to be considered.

I finally got around to seeing the latest Pixar movie Onward released way back in March. The movie didn't get rave reviews like most Pixar movies, despite that, I enjoyed the overall entertainment.

I actually expected it to be much better. I got a couple of laughs from it, but then, I wasn't high.

I thought it was quite good as well. I saw a 10-minute preview when I was at Disney World in February before the pandemic stuff hit. It was able to surprise me a time or two and that helped me to enjoy it more.

This movie was released right before everything hit and theaters were shut down. Credit to Disney for moving it to Disney+ immediately to turn a negative into a positive.

Yeah, it was a dreadfully long, boring movie that didn't even need to be a sci fi film.

There's your problem. I wasn't high as well, but after reading the less-than-stellar reviews, my expectations weren't high going into it either.

I couldn't agree more. After reading reviews, my expectations were low, but I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed the overall experience.

Watched about 15 minutes of Mandy with N. Cage... Could not get into the style.

The Peanut Butter Falcon. Low budget but I liked it. It's a journey film with the main character being a young man with downs syndrome who escapes from an old folks home to meet his wrestling idol and learn in his school.

Da 5 Bloods, Netflix, 5/10 and I do not get any of the positive reviews of this. Too long and not well acted, directed or written.

Been on a Phillip Seymour Hoffman kick, phenomenal actor that was too often over looked by a lot of people.

Capote- 7.5/10 (finally won an Oscar for Best Actor for his role in this)

A Most Wanted Man 7.5/10

Black Water(2018) - 5/10

I am pretty much out of stuff to watch and thought how bad can another Jean Claude Van Damme movie be? I mean it has Damme and Lundren in it based in a submarine. It was pretty low-budget everything from effects to acting.

If you don’t like these two old actors, don’t watch it. If you like them, it is worth it if nothing else is on. It does have a good looking girl or two in it :muttley:

Destination Wedding 2018

6.8 out of 10

Keanu Reeves / Winona Ryder

A close look into a pair of 40 somethings thrust into a weekend situation
neither would choose but both somehow feel obligated to oblige.

Donning his “JohnWick” look, brooding face, beard, and down to the black
suit for most of the movie Keanu Reeves channels his inner “Rust Chole”
of True Detective Season 1 when discussing relationships and the human condition.

The chemistry between the two is apparent but despite the fact that both
are good looking, smart, professionally successful, and have excellent
verbal skills, neither by either chance or choice has been able to parlay
those attributes into any kind of meaning full relationship.

There are two actors in this movie, everything is from their perspective.

Some of Frank’s (Reeves) observations are downright dark, blaming his
outlook and condition on his parents. While Lindsay (Ryder) blames hers
on being dumped 5 weeks before her upcoming wedding now 6 years ago.

This movie is not the romantic comedy it intended, so much so that I
question even calling it that.

This is a 72 hour examination of two people very alike yet very different.
It borders on dark and with the foul language used, each character tries
to justify their “condition” with wordy banter that some comes may say
comes off as callous or mean.

As someone who has a morbid sense of humor I liked the movie
despite its blatant Hollywood ending. I rate this movie a 6.8 out of 10.

At a budget of 5 mil and revenue of just under 2mil, there will NOT be a sequel
but if there was it, it is just as likely one ends up stabbing the other in their sleep
as living happily ever after.

I close with one quote…

Lindsay: But don’t you believe there’s someone for everyone?
Frank: Close. I believe that there’s nobody for anyone.

agree
Not a fan of musicals except Chicago because of Catherine Zeta-Jones
Les Miserables was very good too

the rest, Meh
Not much of a musical guy myself (although Willy Wonka and the Chocolate factory could be considered one and that is an all-time classic). I watched Hamilton recently and it was veryu good despite it being 100% songs.

I finally got around to watching Richard Jewell. I usually don’t hesitate watching an Eastwood film but life got busy.

Anyways, it was excellent yet irritating at the same time. I hate when an innocent person gets a trial by media and I wish that he would have gotten hundreds of millions of dollars for that railroad. Nothing would have made me more happier than Jewell becoming a multimillionaire times ten and flaunting that $$$ in their faces!

I give it a 9/10
