Yeah. Don’t think it’s the smartest allocation, but it’s better than the alternative and at the end of the day that’s what’s most important. He’s an ascending stud, the team is loaded, and I don’t trust the FO to spend the money wisely elsewhere, and even if they tried it’s not a given their targets would sign here.

Anyone? I definitely wouldn’t and I haven’t heard anyone else say they would.

Would anyone?

First off fans don't determine players contract amounts. Second it's only those sportswriters and insiders that have SPECULATED that 40 mil figure yet there are fans that just eat those speculations up. Lastly why users want to rehash this multiple times a day when regardless how they feel it will have zero affect on the negotiations means that either they can't think of anything new to discuss or they have a memory of a gnat and can't remember what was said for the 10,000th time.

I wouldnt even consider it.. He's not even worth what the franchise tag pays him. I would've gave Dak an ultimatum before the draft to sign the current deal on the table or kick rocks and drafted Jordan Love. This team isn't winning a championship with a QB taking up 13% of the cap and no elite defense anyway.

I don't know where this 40 million keeps coming from. No one in the organization has even hinted on it.

Both sides denied that Daks agent even asked for it. He knows he ain’t getting 40. But if he signs the deal now for 4 years then the market maybe at 40 per year by then. But Dak isn’t getting that. I think mahomes will be close..

Dak wouldn't either. Their camp came out and flatly denied that rumor the emotional want so desperately to believe. But drama queens are gonna drama queen. Lol.

This thread is like saying, "I think we should stick with having running water in our houses and not go back to having outhouses. I would be 'outraged' at that. Who's with me?"

If Dak was a legitimate superstar, I don't think anyone would complain.
But, he's not. Dak is the benefactor of quality roster in a messed up system under an incompetent head coach.
The fact that Jason Garrett chose him ought to be one of the biggest indicators that he lacks what is needed to be great. Garrett was looking for a different kind of player. He wanted someone that would make him look great. He wasn't looking for the kind of quarterback who believed that the team was his.
He's just not the guy. It's clear.
He's at best a marginal player who cannot ascend to the top because he lacks the instincts to be a leader.
If Dak had started with just about any other team, he would probably already be out of the league by now.

Some guys are born with the ability to see the game in a different way. For them it is clear how the game is played, and they cannot settle for less than what they know.
Dak is not that guy. He feels as if he has earned marquee pay because he followed directions and did what they told him to do.
But that's not leading.
He doesn't demand that the players around him conform to what it takes to win. He simply does as he is told, and if the Cowboys don't win, he believes that is on the coaches to figure out.
That is his shortcoming.

I would definitely pay the young quarterback more than Goff & Wentz even if it takes $40 million.
JJ is going to have to pay him as much or more than the last starting QB. That’s the market price. If lobster is 35 bucks market price at a restaurant and you go in and sit down and say I will have the lobster but I ain’t paying 35 bucks then I doubt the waiter will be bringing you lobster.

No...but then again I don't think any person is worth that kinda of money. Ridiculous what CEO's,athletes, entertainers et. al. get paid. Very little contribution to society at the end of the day. There are exceptions sure...but few and far between.

Go Cowboys!

Not all disagreements are hate, a concept currently lost in today's world.

I like Dak. I have seen him progress as a QB each year. He HAS gotten better. But he is NOT one of the top QBs in the NFL. Sadly, the team gave him the Exclusive franchise tag. That was a mistake, in my opinion. The non-exclusive tag was about 24 million, the exclusive tag is about 33 million. So we are kind of stuck now. If we sign him long term, we are now talking in the 35 million a year zone. I don't think that he is worth that. If I were the GM, besides suddenly being considerably more wealthy, I would have used the NON-exclusive tag, let him shop around and see what he was worth on the open market. If he got no offers, then I can go to 30 million per year, which I think is slightly more than his worth. If he got an offer that I wanted to match, I could do that. If he got a stupidly large offer, I get 2 first round picks. As it is, I get either Dak @ 33 or nothing. Dumb.

You're right. Pretty much any decent starting QB is going to command that price. But it's not just the lobster that costs 35 bucks. It's the hamburger and hotdog too.
