Unless you have Mahomes, Rodgers, Wilson, a younger Brady, etc.......money ball the position. CFB is producing more talent, more advanced prospects.

Dak is pretty good, but there is no need to over pay. If another team wants to pay him 40 million so be it. It’s a mistake.

keep the position at 15-25 Million. Keep the core of the team together especially with likely cap reductions upcoming.

This is the way

how do you figure we get up into the top 5 picks to get the mahomes type sure top 10 trades if a qb falls but even then you have to lose or give u the farm and what if that picks busts? there are no sure things and this isnt baseball with no cap and where most draft picks have years to develop..

That’s pretty much what they’re doing, isn’t it?

Sure, the college game is producing better quarterbacks and receivers, but do you trust this front office to pick the right one? Dak wasn’t even their third choice, we could have been saddled with Cook.

It’s a team sport but no position is more important. Winston single handedly sunk the Bucs’ chances last year.

Im good with Dak on the franchise tag this year and next. Then let’s see what happens.

Dak isn't asking for 40 million so your entire argument is null and void.

And its pretty obvious you have a 1st grade level understanding of modern QB contracts.

25 million for a good QB was about 10 years ago when Romo resigned. If you are going to pay 15 million for a QB you better have the 95 Bears defense and Walter Payton at RB. I believe Bridgewater signed for 20 million you want someone worse then him?

Who says Dak requires $40 million?

Of the NFL QBs that people might believe are capable of helping a team to great success, how many could you sign in today’s market for $15-25 million? There may be a few at the upper end of that range simply because they are well into a contract that is a few years old, but they won’t be in that range with their next contract.

As for drafting college players, they are not certain, even if a top prospect, and unless the team as a whole sinks in quality to the point it qualifies for a pick somewhere near The top,of the draft, the QBs that carry better odds of success will be drafted before the Cowboys get a shot.

Using that strategy you could of had Andy Dalton or Cam to run the Cowboys offense this season... could be worse.

This is the first time I can remember a surplus at QB, so the theory could be practiced by a team soon.

Cowboys are positioned to exercise this move, but like others have stated not many trust this FO can find the right QB.

Your 40 mil is just guess and speculation by sportswriters and insiders to get people to click on their articles. None of them have a direct quote from any of the 4 people actually involved in the negotiations.

By all means lets hitch the Cowboys wagon on the next college QB that's proclaimed the next super star. Of course those draft gurus and sportswriters have never been wrong. There really isn't a list a mile long of those QB's that were anointed before the draft to have been super stars that turned out to be busts. There's even a 1st over all pick that falls into that category to go along with every number pick in the first round. But that really doesn't matter because the Prescott haters are grasping at straws to justify their Prescott hating.

I've thought this for years. There's a lot more talent out there than gets to start. Dak might still be a backup but for injuries to Romo and Moore.

Draft more QBs. Churn more. Look at backups. Look more for QBs who can run, and feel free to use them when you don't have gazillions of dead money locked up in them. Backup running QBs are great, as they bring something extra, and you can take more risks with a backup.

McCarthy is supposed to be the QB Whisperer. Perfect HC for this. The contract impasse with Dak could have been a good time to start. Of course, we could have been doing this the last few years too.

It's time for this discussion again, as it's our last chance if Dak signs a long term contract, and if Dak doesn't sign a long term contract, it will be time to discuss QB staffing philosophy in earnest.

He could whisper the next Paxton Manziel into something more than... nothing!

Glad you sent the GM. Dak is a top 5 QB and that’s why he’s getting paid on Wed.

Not that I'm disagreeing, but it's never a good idea to paint your opinions into a corner.
