Surprised ESPN is the only one that has removed the logo from their website. I figured ESPN would be out front in the woke contest but even NFL.com has the logo up currently.

They're changing the logo too? Well then, maybe they won't keep the same theme.

Why? Don't live in the past but embrace the future. Change is inevitable.

The rivalry may not be dead to us. Because we are aware of its history (Past owner’s beef and big games), but to an casual sports fan (let’s say a kid) it most definitely won’t be as polarizing as it was. As a kid, I knew there was a rivalry just in the name of the game. That’s gone now.

Washington Red Hogs/Razorbacks - they can keep the R for the hashtag, and honor the Old Hogs from the RFK days...best I got. I bet WAS fans are nervous about Snyder naming the logo.

They can change the logo and still keep the same theme. They’ve used at least two other logos over the years that would be acceptable.

Supposedly the new name will have nothing to do with that theme.

All I’ve heard reported so far is they’re changing the name and the logo. If they change the theme it’s going to be a night and day change. It’s going to be a completely different team. This has got to be killing their fans. They’re even going to have to change their theme song. lol

Almost 90 years with that name. I wouldn't be surprised if some fans just decide to call it quits. They're going to look like an expansion team for a little while until people get used to the new look and name.

What’s making their whole situation even worse is they have a crappy team and an unproven QB. No matter what name they pick their fan base is going to hate it. Has the really suck being a Washington fan.

Out of respect for the rivalry, I will refer to them as the Washington Deadskins. Whatever nickname they choose for the future will not be the same team for me. I prefer to preserve their legacy while respecting that which no longer lives. Hail to the Deadskins.

I was just thinking it's too bad their stadium is Fed Ex instead of UPS. They could have become the Washington Brownshirts.

Yeah, Snyder will keep the burgundy and gold theme for sure. They'd be nuts to totally switch out to something 100% different like green and white or purple+orange or something like that. That would be expansion-team-ism. They'd lose half their fans.

A Virginia man has trademarked almost every name Washington could use or want.

https://www.totalprosports.com/2020...2Ssyw6iMZIoyX9qxXg3RjHQfJZOEoEBuugP-qgKTL7hBQ

I mean good for him but it does not matter. I believe in the US, unlike with domains, unless you are actively using the trademark you cannot actually contest its use.

I know with website domains you can register them and just sit on them, (that was a way a lot of people made good money when the internet was first taking off), but I believe in the US you need to actually be using the trademark.

If warriors is the new name, the explanation should be that it is a generic reference to hundreds of state and federal American military units.

Any name will have some group that hates the choice.

Logo could be a crossed long bowl and sword.

Or the logo could be David disposing of Goliath, Scottish raiders requisitioning English cattle, or a knight eating a peacock.
