The wheels started coming off the cart post "Terminus".

Too many characters... Not enough character development. And the writers resorting to "character kills" to keep the series interesting. Trouble was there was never enough character development to really care about who died, and it happened so frequently you became numb to another meh character biting the dust.

Is Negan still alive?

I was always bummed that when Jeffery Dean Morgan joined the writing turned to poop.
He was one of my favorite actors when he joined but after a season or two I just got bored with the writing/direction.

I stopped watching because Negan killed Glenn. I was pissed. Glenn fought so hard to survive just for this A- hole to kill him off.

Yea, that was a shocker, but Glenn surviving the zombies in the dumpster scene was weak. But then to have him live to die in that fashion pissed off a lot of people.

Exactly where I'm at too. I absolutely loved the show when it came out and binged the first 5-6 seasons. After that it just got a little long in the tooth for me and I was only catching it here and there. I feel like I'm committed to finish the show at this point, but, when that will happen is another question. To be honest, I'm not even sure where I left off. I'm going to have to research and figure out where I even last watched. lol

I just hope they do something else with the story. Was kind of the same old regurgitated events over and over and it got boring with them being centered in Alexandria.

You know what else really bothered me? The self-congratulatory propaganda that surrounded the show - and still does. The show runners congratulating themselves while the show got stale, the ratings fell, and all of this talk of 'expansion' never came to pass.

Even now, as Rome burns to the ground, they still talk about movies and spinoffs three years down the road. Just admit your failure already and quit blowing smoke.

This had to be the first show ever to have an hour long talk show after it was over, talking about the show you just watched.

I'll always be grateful for the show, no matter that it fell-off a great deal over the last few seasons.

When I got out of theater after watching the 1978 "Dawn of the Dead" which was an X-rated movie due to its level of violence, as much as I loved that movie (and still do) you would have never convinced me in a million years that zombies would at some point become mainstream and a TV series based on a zombie apocalypse would be on TV for 11 years– AND be extremely popular (for a while).

No, never would have believed it.

That spin-off series was suppose to be a high successful but iI keep hearing it in so low regards in dropping ratings
despite AMC attempt to keep advertising for it.
i watched some episodes of the 1st season, and then i dropped off of it afterwards.

Why is Walking Dead series ending ?
i've read where the bigger key cast members want to end it and move on, the ratings still decent but hasn't been
near what it was like in past seasons. The show's writers are just running out of ideas and popular scripts.
The latest is a now nice, likeable Negan, and an independent Whispers...

wow that's really Interesting what you said about Dawn of the Dead being an X' rated. i had never heard that before. i need to read and research
more about that.

at the time when i saw it as a teen (with an adult), it was a very extraordinarily unique movie in it's " extreme blood gore " contents.
Night of the Living Dead was the original foundation, but the vicious gore fest in Dawn of the Dead set the stage for zombie mania, imo.

But did Walking Dead series re-booted the Zombie mania that prompted so many zombie movies and even zombie series ala I- Zombie ?
Or was the Zombie mania already set in motion, with Shaun of the Dead, ...Fido, ,.. Return of the Living Dead series .... Resident Evil .. ?

The ratings on "Fear" have continually dropped.

I believe the show is ending because the source of original material is now gone. The graphic novel ended with the "Commonwealth" arc which is the story of our cast of characters meeting up with citizens of a much, much larger community (or group of communities).

And that's how the TV series will end... With a similar situation.

Carol and Daryl are suppose to be going off on their own spinoff show.

My guess is they'll decline to be part of this much larger community and will take off on their own.

IMO that show will be like one of the old "Lassie" shows where they'll meet "a friend a week" kind of thing.

Yes, 1978 "Dawn" was X-rated for violence. If you were under 18, you couldn't see it... Unless you "doctored" your learner's permit to show that you were over 18... Not that I know anything about that.

The whole Zombie niche had been running in high-gear when the show started. The graphic novel had been around for a few years already. I doubt the TV show would have taken off if it weren't for all the new zombie flicks and such during the early to middle 2000's.

Ironically that's when i loved walking dead , the un-predictable-ness, and shock value. As much as Glenn was so liked and a very popular character,
but the shock value was pleasantly surprising. ( much like GOT's Red Wedding episode)
Maybe the actor who played Glenn wanted a career moving exit .

hey remember that Rick's son Carl got killed off the show, too.

But i also remembering there was a huge outrage and fall out by WD fans that were agitated about HOW and the way Glenn died ...and the
most brutal violently gory single scene ever on the WD show..

After that Negan became boring, and somehow they were able to edited the more gory scenes out of future WD scenes, ..which killed it for me. .

In the graphic novel the smaller communities learn of the existence of very large (50,000+) community that has learned to live and even thrive. They have sporting events and an organized military.

It's not a "fighting" relationship between the large community and the smaller ones... Obviously the smaller ones wouldn't stand a chance.

It's more of a political battle. It's a much different fight than what we are used to seeing up to this point where one side tries to wipe-out the other.

The graphic novel ends with a big time-jump into the future... The cast of characters left in the graphic novel differ greatly from the cast of characters on the TV show.

There is no discussion about the why or how of the epidemic and appearances by the undead are few and far between.

Technologically they're kind of all over the map, but the overall bent is like what you would have found in this country from about 1880-1900. For example they managed to get a railroad rebuilt and it was powered by a steam-driven locomotive which would have been easier to fix, maintain and power than a diesel-electric of today.
