I actually really liked this call. It was so NOT Garrett it felt GREAT! In the end I wish we had it back, not really.

I didn't have a problem with it. Around the 10? Inside the 10?

If you get that close, don't settle for a FG. It won't always work. Doesn't mean it's a bad call.

What’s funny to me is I don’t see ANYONE talking about the fact Schultz dropped the pass that would’ve given them the first down - went right through his hands and he was either right at the sticks or extremely close.
Schultz looks very out of shape. Hope it was just first game/ preseason jitters. His play was sloppy once he took over though.

As I mentioned in another thread, I would have taken the 3 at this stage of the game and tied it up. I'm not faulting McCarthy for going for it only saying if it were my call I would have taken the 3. Defense was playing better in the 2nd half so I feel we would have gotten another chance to take the lead.

Too late in the game to try that.

If you wanted to be aggressive than the move was to throw the ball on 3rd and 6.

Cmon man stop it - it was a stupid call.

The way the offense was playing you don’t leave points off the board especially 3 that would have tied the game. It’s not like this offense was rolling and couldn’t be stopped. The offense sucked and was having a hard time that’s why the call was terrible. No feel for what was going on in the game.

That was a terrible call considering the following. It was the opening game. It was an away game. It was 4th and 3. They only needed a chip shot FG to tie. The failure pumped up an already pumped up D facing the overhyped Cowboys O. They lost by what? 3?

I wanted McC and still do but that was a terrible call under the circumstances above. He can sell that all he wants but if he's not second guessing his decision making in that situation, he didn't learn enough sitting out one year. That was Coaching 101.

I brought that up in the blame post. He was put in a difficult spot but if he had made the catch, it would have been a first down or 3rd and inches. His two drops were huge.

McC had to call it. If the Cowboys scored a td that drive, the Rams showed that they can move the ball but somewhat struggled when it came to scoring touchdowns. It gave the defense a chance.

Go for the tie, it was almost a guarantee that the Rams could get in FG range in the next two possessions.

I'll have to admit, I thought we were at a point in the game where we needed a bold play to pull us out of the rut we were in. Sometimes it works and sometimes it won't. At least, MM had the intestinal fortitude to take a shot at climbing out of that rut. I don't hold it against him at all. o_O

I swear.... we could have the GOAT BB here as head coach, and at least half the board would think they could coach better than the him...

Gutsy call if for only the fact that a failed conversion would likely mean instant media criticism.

But did anyone expect the defense to keep the Rams out of field goal range if the score was tied and they were sill being aggressive? At least if you score a touchdown; they need a touchdown to retake the lead and giving up a field goal doesn’t tie it back up.

I was shocked at the call. You had a chance to tie the game.
I was stunned.

I thought tie the game..

take a chance we get the ball back..

give the team a sense of it's still possible to win..

but when McCarthy made the decision to go for it..

and failed..

he doubled the pressure on us.

On a day when we were behind all game.

Just a poor call.

Everyone wants to go for it until it doesn't work out. : )

If it was 4th and 1 or inches, I would have been a big supporter of the decision. However in that situation kick the field goal to tie the game. If the Rams scored a td on the next drive after failing to convert the game would be over. If you kicked the field goal you likely still give your offense a better chance to win the game, especially if you do get a stop.

Agreed, I liked the call, the execution and everything except Lambdidn't run to the sticks on the route.

My other thought is that is will see that when the watch the tape this week and has enough of an ego to work harder and make up for it this week!
