This is a Rebuilding Year

I couldn't agree more, on the defensive side far more than the offense. Dallas desperately needs some talent on the defense, preferably young and cheap.

There's going to me a mass exodus of defenders next year, as far as expiring contracts go. A ton of one year rentals and expiring deals.
And the cap is going down....for everyone, so there should be some defensive talent cap casualties you normally wouldnt see.

If we could somehow manage things properly they could fix this defense quickly.

I know most don't want to hear it, but we're simply not going anywhere until we fix the D. Pretty sure McC is well aware of that. Galley and Diggs are a good start. Need tons more talent on D, though at this point.

Yeah I don't want to here it.

Defense around the league sucks right now.

We need to get healthy and collect some wins and see where we are in November.

This defense has the upside to be good late in the year but right now they are banged up and the DL hasn't found it's footing.

Week 1 we gave up only 20 points.. You can win with that.

Week 2 we gave up 19 points off turnovers.

Now we are down 2 of our top 3 corners and LVE who can be a difference making player when healthy.

LVE, and Lee will come back. Brown and Awuzie will come back. We will also add Gregory who can hopefully knock off rust as quick as Aldon.

Let's tap the breaks on a rebuild and just wait and see what this thing looks like late November.

we seem to be rebuilding on both sides of the ball. two udfa's starting at the tackle spots. and like it or not, former standout rt smith regularly misses games. rookie wr lambo. rookie cb diggs. lb's in disarray with uncertain status of lee and lve. uncertainty at safety. coaching conundrum.

It should have been. It was the perfect time.

once they signed the contract with cooper and hired McCarthy that nullified it.

this is a three year window of going for it. Maybe a two year window.

I'm curious about the mention of the McCarthy hire? Wouldn't bringing in a new coach coincide with a rebuild or sorts? How would that hire nullify the notion of a minor rebuild?

Call me crazy, and this is not an Anti-Dak statement, I'm speaking in hypotheticals. I see the Cooper contract+CeeDee draft pick as an opportunity to set up a rookie-type friendly offense. As in, a draft pick or a newer QB could step in and bus drive effectively enough because he's got a juggernaut built around him.

As far as the defense goes though? Yikes. There are 7+ expiring contracts with only a few young players, or unknowns(Randy, DLaw, Brown)coming back. Seems that we're going to have to rely on the Jones/McClay/McCarthy to hit on a cautiously optimistic draft again.

Rebuilding implies that We tore something down.
We didn't dismantle the team, the core is basically the same, it's a continuation of the building process.
We've changed the middle management.
i guess you prefer changing of the guard. buckingham palace style.

I do not look at this team as a rebuilder, more of a remodeler. The D is a project and they brought is some pieces on the short term to buy some time and compete as best they can. I do not know what Nolan's plan is but he has to figure out what he needs to address that.

I am pretty certain he wasn't a happy man watching Lamb fall in the draft. But he also knew coming in that he now works for a follow the ball GM and the offense is all about the sizzle.

He's already lost 4 players out of his back 7, Lee, Vander Esch, Brown and Awuzie and the best player so far in his secondary is the rookie CB. His rebuild is crazy. "Excuse me, wasn't this the study last week?" "Yep, it's a game room now, probably be a video room next week. Just hope we don't need to turn it into a nursery".

I have no problem with building from the base We have, there's some decent talent to build on, I was just pointing out that We aren't rebuilding.

Too early to tell about the defense. There were multiple injuries. Gregory will be coming back, and I think he will be a good addition.

The offense gave up up the ball in bad positions last game, and we are not winning time of possession or playing with a lead.

I think the offensive play has hurt the defense.

While I believe that teams are in a constant motion of rebuilding I have to agree with regard to the defense. Until we stop drafting players "with potential, injury concerns/histories, or gambles" we're never going to have a great defense. And that's just the linebackers.
We haven't drafted and early defensive tackle worth a crap in decades.
We just drafted Trevon Diggs, Trysten Hill and LVE the last 3 years.

I don't think we are rebuilding anything. The D needs to gel and get used to playing a new scheme, no OTA and MiniCamps really hurt in that area. We will find out at the end of the year though, if they go all in on Dak, they are not rebuilding anytime soon, if they let him walk, then they could blow it up and rebuild.

I think you are right, but used to wrong term. Its more of a transition year. The team has the ability to win 10+ games, so it definitely isnt a rebuilding year. However to get beyond an NFCCG (I think thats the max this team could do right now) the defense has to get better and more talented. We have the offensive talent to win the division. I think if some in house defenders improve, we should win a round 1 game and steal a round 2. But they will get exposed eventually

Because Retreads never win big. The sean mcvay-sean payton-Kyle shannahan etc...type hires are the ones you rebuild with.

Ain't no damn rebuilding year. I'm not saying we are going to do anything but if we fail this year it aint' because its "rebuilding". Don't give this organization that cop out.
