Comments about the 2019 and 2020 drafts bust..

The 2019, draft Conner McGovern. He was rated by our esteemed draft leadership as having a high 2 rnd grade.. Wow, now I know he was injured, but that was known at draft time, so we are 18 months post injury and I am hearing our worst OL, Connor Williams is projected now to be the back up center? He was supposed to challenge Connor Williams or at the very least be back-up at center. He still cannot get on the field.. And to think, we graded him HIGH 2nd rounder.

The 2020 has two draft picks that have me perplexed. 3rd pick Neville Galimor. He has not even suited up for the last two games! This is in spite of loosing Gerald McCoy, in training camp, therefore down an interior lineman. Now I know that Tristen Hill has stepped up a bit, but Galimor has not even made the rotation. The second issue is Reggie Robinson. He was a heralded 4th round pick. We have have off the street FA, and they have made the team and dressed but the 4th rookie cannot even make special teams? Now both our early in their careers, with no training camp etc.. but still how difficult is it just to make special teams? Wow..

The draft is the life blood of a team. I am no longer confident of our abilities... Comments please or add if you have heard any updates on the players I have mentioned.

2018 is a mixed bag. Our first two picks look like whiffs: LVE had an absolutely monstrous rookie year that arguably justified a 1st round pick for that one season alone, but that's looking like all we'll get from him. C-Will is a below average NFL starter, and I've given up hope on improvement. But the later picks look really good. Gallup's a 1,000 yard receiver, Schultz is starting to look like a player, and Ced just might be one too.

If you look at the NFL's past track record, getting 2 good starters usually ends up being a better than average draft class. If Schultz and Gallup end up being those two starters, I'll chalk up 2018 as a W. Even if Schultz comes back down to earth and we end up with 1 good starter and 2 mediocre starters (CWill + Schultz), that's still actually a decent return.

2019 is looking like a writeoff. Hill's looking like an average gap shooter who makes 1-2 big plays a week and stays pretty anonymous otherwise. He does still have room for growth, and Nolan's defense is misplaying him IMO, but right now he looks like a worse version of Maliek Collins. McGovern can't even crack a gutted OL lineup. Pollard has some elite juice but just chronically makes mistakes. I don't think we'll end up with a single starter from the 2019 class unless we force Hill into a bigger role than he's ready for, and we didn't even really get that great of depth either.

2020 is way too early to say, but CeeDee is playing like a 5 year pro already, Diggs' speed is really starting to scare me, and it's concerning that Gallimore isn't playing even on a very bad DT roster. Crawford and Poe are playing at a street free agent level if not worse, and he can't take snaps away from them?

Way too early on any of this and for any players.

Everyone screaming Hill was a bust last year without even much playing time. Based on a few preseason game snaps as well. Typical of all the couch / basement GM's we have on here.
He is playing decent this season.

I will wait before I pass judgement.

I agree in general, but I think concerns about both Gallimore and McGovern are fair.

Gallimore doesn't get the same rope as Hill, because he's so much older - someone who turns 24 in January should be pro ready pretty much day 1. McGovern not even competing for a starting spot is problematic...though who knows how much of a setback the injuries have caused.

I did like the Galley pick and the story is not written yet, but at the end of the day he's another 3 tech. Not the player we needed.

McGovern: Lightly built. Not a high level athlete. Do I like him? Yes.......but. Underpowered. Won't contribute until he builds up his strength.

IMO, McG was another pick of a ballet dancer who doesn't anchor. Yet another case of us taking mobility and potential over simple mauling strength. He should still turn out to be a useful player.

Maybe they graded them right but our coaches could not help them take the next step. Taco Charlton was a bust in Cowboys land but seems to be doing okay for himself now.

.

Williams is solid. Some of y'all expect him to be Zack Martin. He and Biadasz are the reasons why McGovern is on the bench. He was inactive because of numbers in the first game. No other reason.

Your logic based on Williams being the backup center is mental. Williams is in a better spot to be the backup C because he's been in this offense for three years. And with Williams now the backup C what does that mean? If Biadasz goes down .... McGovern is playing G. How's that an indictment of McGovern again?

I really thought McGovern would be a starter at some point this year. It’s mystifying how little we have seen him so I’m starting to think he’s still hurt.

We may see McGovern this week starting at RG with Martin starting at RT.

Not how you quote

I watch the games and then use PFF as standard unit of measure to make sure I'm not being overly critical.

I am not. He is confirmed awful.

He really isn't though.

You guys see guy-on0field and assume he is playing well.

The only thing worse than wondering if he's a bust is actually seeing he's a bust. He's awful.
I think he is yet another player on this defense that would be better in a different system.

I think everyone falls into that category except Aldon Smith, and maybe Poe.

They really need to realize quickly that Nolan isnt the guy, and this team is filled with 43 type players.

I think they wanted experience at G with the young tackles in there and that makes sense.

However, we have to hope that McGovern's upside is better than what we know Williams' is, and we will want him in the lineup as we move ahead with this lost season.

Washington, BTW....is going to destroy this OL in a few weeks.

Not sure if the lefty/righty thing matters to either of the guards, but maybe this can work.....

Knight--Williams--Biadasz--McGovern--Martin

I've done a few of these today...and they all do not include Steele. Happy to have the guy to develop him, but he ISNT ready and is going to get people hurt eventually. They are playing w fire w him.
Knight is light years ahead and ought to be.

Gallimore deserves a year. I think he'll be a contributor next year. He seems to have the want to unlike Hill

Could Diggs be a pro bowl FS? Appears to take good angles and is a physical guy, to a point. His recovery speed is concerning. The opposite experiment with B. Jones. He plays hard and has some fight to him. Appears to be a guy that will go after the ball.
