My friends- my fellow suffering Cowboys fans- Here’s some truth we all need to accept right now: All the talent in the pro football world is not enough to overcome this dysfunctional, putrid, non-accountable culture.

Let us count the ways:
  • For those of you hoping for the #1 pick next year, aka the Trevor Lawrence sweepstakes. Sorry, but that won’t fix fix this mess.
  • We could acquire Pat Mahomes tonight, and it wouldn’t fix this mess.
  • We could add All Pro talent at every position, on both sides of the ball, and it won’t fix this mess.
  • We could draft the best pass rusher and run stuffer in the draft next year. It’s not enough to fix this.
  • We could trade the entire defending champion KC chiefs roster for this roster of quitters, and it wouldn’t make us much better.
Accept it- this mess, this stink is a 25 year rotten egg that is the responsibility and result of the 78 year old fool that still believes if you buy an NFL team, you are qualified to run that team’s football operations. Well, the truth is, our owner can’t. And his stubborn arrogance is the real culprit here.

Here is the cancer that eats this organization:
  • No accountability. If the guy playing GM never, ever has to pay a price for his mistakes, then there is truly no accountability anywhere else. That’s organizational health 101. If you don’t hold the people at the top accountable, you can’t anywhere else.
  • Because the front office is “soft”, so is its team.
  • What this team needs is a HC that has an “asthma field” again.
  • Truth bomb- there is no recovery with a guy named Jones leading football operations. Period. It’s over. They have crapped the bed for too long.
  • Hate to say it, but if there is no humilty shown by Jerry to take any responsibility to change his ways, all the talent in the world won’t matter.

Good post. I agree with the things your saying, however, if anyone is going to remain a fan of this team, we have to accept the fact the Jerry owns this team and will never change the way he is.

His behavior and way of doing business definitely brings on problems and if we do have a good season its probably in spite of him rather then because of him.

The culture is a huge issue but if we are going to be fans in spite of all of this, then you hope we can make things work at some point. This season is a complete disaster and at the bare minimum Nolan needs to go along with a bunch of players that aren't contributing. I dont see McCarthy getting canned after one season but I guess anything is possible.

I'm not saying fall for the trap that all is well next season if we make a couple of moves but we should hope for an off season of alot of roster turnover that rids us alot of guys who aren't putting in the work or just going through the motions and collecting a pay check.

I think Jerry is a huge issue, I hope that it doesn't come across like I'm ignoring that. I'm more hoping that because this is the team we are fans of that we can see this team at head in the right direction.

Not overly optimistic, in fact, I know its unlikely. Just my thoughts.

I said it before I'll say it once more. The Jones family has to go that's the only chance for the Dallas Cowboys. It's just the how that needs to be filled in. The only way to fix this is by making that Family not part of this organization. All of it needs to go including Jerry World.

Ok, I get your point but what is the point. Jerry ain’t going anywhere till he dies and then Stevie is then taking over. Romo had the talent he should have retired with 3 Super Bowls. 1st part of his career he could scramble around behind a bargain basement OL per Jerry. After a few injuries lead to fixing the line they decide to take on a 2 to 3 year project changing the defense while having a rapidly aging QB. Then there’s the dumb use of premium picks Smith and Gregory. Could have had Jarran Reed (chunked a beer bottle throght flatscreen) and Frank Clark went a round later... holy **** if they had taken Mansfield. It is what it is...Either scream shrilly and vigorously stomp your wittle foot or try to deal with it and drink heavily!

What a shame. It really is so true that this is all Jerry's fault. Parcells came in and changed the way the football team was run and gave us a modicum of hope that these changes would have a lasting effect and now we are back to the way things were before. Entitled players. Stupid drafting. Bad contracts. Embarrassing performances. Jerry calling all the shots.

We are built to make money, not win championships.

Why can't Jerry see that having a good football team run by an expert will actually make him more money (because wins=fans)? And the act of sidelining his ego and hiring a real GM that helps the team will actually reflect well on him and improve his legacy, not diminish it?

The first step in change is to accept reality. The second is to take action.

Yes. Any responsible owner would take the following action after this mess:

1. Fire the GM
2. Fire the DC
3. Fire the HC if things don’t stabilize and go into full rebuild mode

The foundations of this team are in rubble. The culture is long in need of a ruthless, football first HC, and a GM that is willing and able to bring the smack down when results are languishing.

We have neither. We have grandpa Jerry sailing on the good ship lollipop with his rose-colored glasses— where everything is rainbows and unicorns, and the Cowboys will always be ready to contend “next year”

We need a kick ace HC again with an “asthma field”.

^this^ Football is and always will be played in its simplest terms. Between the ears(high football IQ) and intense passion, grit for the game. If a player is missing one of those things, its all over. Jaylon Smith and DFLAW for example...look at them after a loss. HECK, look at Jaylon during a loss on the field...he is hamming it up, celebrating like he won something after he blows a coverage, and barely makes a tackle...and after the man he is covering gets 9 yards. Its very telling to me.Either he just isn't very football smart,or he is happy to be here and nothing more. He appears to be indifferent and lax win lose or draw. SEEMS TO BE THE THEME AMONGST ALL THE PLAYERS. MM needs to have open competition this week and lets start the guys that are hungry and have that desire to be good. We have no tenacity...no swag,no TEAM mindset. We simply look ok with the results.

Absolutely true. I created an org chart for the Jones model of accountability and football management from a years ago under Garrett's reign of terror, comparing it to the most successful organization the past 20 years. It is a great visual representation of the dysfunction you speak of. We have the "spoke and wheel" hierarchy which is everyone in the org reports to and answers to Jerry. The Patriots and other successful organizations use the pyramid hierarchy where power and authority is delegated and accountability flows like a military chain of command.

until JERRY AND MM decide they have to hold players accountable,NOT patting them on the butt and telling ALL OF that we are "so close" to getting it together, nothing will change. We are being sold snake oil by Jerry and Stephen. MM isn't much better honestly. He has yet to hold anybody accountable..NO ONE...In fact, he just made X woods a team captain lol..and Griffin ...and for what?!!!

For those saying “That will never happen- Jerry will never step aside”- it already has happened at the beginning of the Jones era. That’s actually how things started with Jerry. He hired a great HC and was not calling all the shots like he’s been doing since. It’s the only hope.

The Jaylon Smith phenomena is the result of having no accountability to other players or coaches - Jaylon, like Zeke and DLAw answer only to Jerry. If they are cool with Jerry, then nothing else matters. That lack of accountability to fellow players and coaches creates this loser/quitter culture. What a sad state of affairs. It never had to be this way but Jones insists on playing with his toy train like we are his fantasy football team.
