I know..I KNOW! A ton of zeke threads already. Plus...I've already disclosed I hate talking "money". Or personal issues of players (for the most part...they are humans too). BUT....I did pick up this article....and my hope is that we stay on the contract money part...and kind of avoid personal attacks and insults.

I found the article very refreshing..a very objective viewpoint....but staying very focused on the topic. There are links in there about assessing Zeke performance over the course of his career (great) and th elast year and half (not so great).

I hope you find this interesting or at least entertaining:

Why? Until Jerry passes the hat and asks me to help pay a player's salary I am more interested in how much fuel the space shuttle burns than am what a player is getting paid. At least the space shuttle was built and launched with my tax dollars.. Wait.. is that still true now that SpaceX is building and launching them?

I don't care how much money these guys make. Get what you can get. It is fine by me. In a non salary cap world it would be a complete non issue. In a salary cap world the money you make is everything. team success depends on getting value out of the dollar. No one cares about the actual dollar value. People care about the impact that it has on the teams success. I don't know why but I feel like this is hard for some people to understand and is the cause of much confusion.

"What do you care how much Zeke makes it's not like it comes out of your pocket." This is an example of some of the most annoying statements that I see. I would like to see a system that converts their contract into something called "team shares". Each team would get 100 team shares. The number of team shares never changes. That way we never have to talk about how much money they make but there is a standardized method of determining how many team shares a player uses up each year. You could then easily convert production into teams shares and the values could be compared from year to year.

If RB x provided 1,000 yards per team share but RB y provided only 250 yards per team share I think it would be pretty easy to pick between the two. I have a feeling Zeke would be setting some all time records and not in a good way.

Your “I don’t care what players get paid” argument makes no sense in a salary cap league and you know exactly why.

I’ll give it to you — you’re probably one hell of a loyal friend/family member. Because if you’re willing to go down with the ship with Zeke the way you are and never acknowledge his faults (financial or otherwise), you’re probably willing to overlook a ton of stuff in real life too

For those of you who do not care how much money Zeke makes I would refer you to my post above. I know it is a bit longer than what you would typically like to read. For that I apologize.

The problem is that it's wrong.

no we dont , we as fans watch football , that It ..follow your favorite players, water cooler talk, trash talk, attend games wear jerseys etc..

we are NOT agents, FO, owners ,or have anything to do with Money and contracts.. do you own stock in the DC? I doubt it they dont sell it last i checked so it not our concern what player makes..

never should this come into play for Fan, you want to discus it. go ahead, its moot point we are not here to worry about the cap..teams are fielded we watch it...that is IT!

I'm fine with what Zeke makes. I'm also fine if the Cowboys cut him prior to 3/20/2021 to avoid the 2022 guaranteed $. Time to admit the mistake, eat the dead $ in 2021, and move on.

1) .. no matter how much hand wringing and gnashing of teeth people engage in, no one will ever make me give a rat's *** about players' salaries. They are entertainers.. who millions upon millions pay to be entertained by.. They aren't even the highest paid entertainers in this country.. hell they aren't even the highest paid athletes.. and in the NFL the instant a player is deemed to be costing too much and performing too little they show him the door. So I will never begrudge a player getting every dime he can get as long as the team can manage his deal under the cap. And unlike some here, I understand the cap well enough to know that it can be done.. Not that it's easy.. but it can be done and has been literally thousands of times over the last 25 years.
2) .. no matter what Zeke does or doesn't do it will have little or no effect on my life one way or the other. So there is no ship to go down with..
3) .. I have acknowledged and analyzed Zeke's play ad nauseum from his fumbles, to his drops, to his seeking out contact instead of trying to break off big plays.. If you didn't read or understand what I've written because it wasn't couched in "He sucks, cut him now.." .. that's a you problem..
4) .. sports IS real life.. The players are people.. the games (for the most part) are real and not predetermined.

it was a stupid contract and we cant get out of it until 2022 without significant cap implications and because the offensive line has regressed so has he because of this and because of wear and tear to his body. stupid pick and stupid extension but Jerry is not a stranger to these.

and youre right it isnt my money but impacts the team that I root for and their ability to get better. if they are going to overpay players it should to a different position

First, I do not think the league is just going to allow the cap to plummet to $175 million next year. If that happens the entire league is screwed. Teams would be releasing players all over the place and no one teams would be able to sign them because they'd have their own cap problems. The league will come up with some kind of emergency provision, the players will agree to it and the cap will remain about the same.

As for Zeke, the issue is still Dak. If the Cowboys have to franchise Dak again they must reserve $37.5 million in CAP space to do it. Right now, the Cowboys are projected to have about $34 million in CAP space, but that's for 40 players. Rookie could fill some of those roster spots on the cheap, but they would still need to free up CAP space to make sure they can franchise Dak - or they have to agree to a long term deal with Dak that is CAP friendly in years 1 and 2. Still, cutting Zeke makes all this almost financially impossible. Extending Zeke was dumb, but guaranteeing his money for the following year in 2020 and 2021 was really dumb.

As for Zeke, we've been saying on this board for more than 2 years Zeke looks slower. I actually think he is as fast this year as he was last, but he is still slower than he was as a rookie. Pollard only accentuates how slow Zeke looks.

I was /sorta still am a huge Zeke fan. I was a running back.....I like running backs- so there you go.

But—-I don’t think we ever should have paid him like we did. You can’t have a great OL, QB, WRs, pass rusher, Elite DB and still pay for an RB like that. It’s like JJ doesn’t realize there is a cap and it’s not 1994.

All that said- I think if you get a few pieces back on the o line and get Dak back, Zeke will look a lot more like Zeke.

Anyone remember watching Barry Sanders on those god awful Lions teams? Towards the end, he looked like a really quick , elusive guy who could get you two yards most plays....
