To be fair, I believe the 1st 2 years of Dak's contract the team still had Romo's dead money taking up a ton of space.

Agreed. That said being stingy the last 2 seasons made zero sense.

I really like Dak, but if Lawrence, Fields or maybe even Trask is sitting there you have to seriously consider taking him. I think you have to do it.

Troy addressed effort too.....or lack thereof. He probably wanted to call BWI for an early flight out.

the only QB i'd be interested in is lawrence.
Dak has progressed every year he's been in the league.
the eagles lost their franchise qb and they kept rollin' with foles..didnt even notice their guy was gone...we lose ours and the whole damn thing crumbles.
Dak is our guy.
pay him and build around him thru the draft.
we need our pick to have the kinda impact on our team that Zeke had in '016.
now if they let Dak walk...whole different story.
we need Penei Sewell,OT-Oregon...Micah Parsons,LB-Penn St...Patrick Surtain,CB-Alabama...one of'm.
or trade down with a team that needs a QB.

Now Troy has said he likes what he has seen in Dak. He has said this several times.

However, last night he said, if you are in position to take one of the QB's at the top of the draft, you must do so. And I can't disagree.

Did anyone else hear this?
What do you all think about it?

I know many will agree, as some will disagree with this statement.

I stated several times, you have to consider it, no way you can not discard this theory.
Yo have a QB that is good to very good, but just seems to be missing something at times. I felt the same about Tony Romo.

So Dak on the verge of being tagged at $37 million or set to make $35 to $40 million a year. Now I won't get into the salary cap ramifications on that, but understand the thinking from many fans about it.
So a franchise QB is there, you get at a 5 year far less impact on the cap.

Can this QB do right away what Dak will do when he returns healthy from his injury. But yet still the same issues, no defense. Though I think a new DC will be better than a 3rd pick overall on defense.

What are your thoughts as of this morning.
Right now, as usual, I will wait until the end of the season, see where we pick. I do like Dak, but I am leaning very much too selecting a QB.

He was stating the obvious. You can NEVER pass up on a franchise type QB no matter where you are with your QB. If Cowboys get a top 2 pick and NO ONE will trade up, you take the QB. Common sense.

"I do like Dak"? Stop lying. You have said many times that would take Dalton over Dak. :lmao2::lmao2::lmao::lmao:

Crap. Trade down and draft defense, defense, defense.

Lets just be honest here..................Lets just imagine that the Cowboys let Dak walk and drafted Lawrence. What is going to change? Lets just imagine also that Lawrence becomes as good as Dak and wins rookie of the year. What has changed? Its going to take 3 or 4 years now to develop Lawrence and build the defense. You going to go out and spend 25 million on FA's and think that is going to work? Teams are built through the draft.

So by the time you finally get a contending team around Lawrence, you will have to pay him 45 million per year.

Only way it makes any sense would be to trade Dak for a windfall of picks.

The rookie QB salary thing ONLY works if you have a ready made great defense already in tow like the Seahawks did. Mahomes isnt walking through that door anytime in the next 40 years.

I don’t get where people think that if you draft QB he’s going to be the next Mahomes. It’s 50-50 he’ll be half as good.
He is not going to be better than Mahomes, that isn't the point. Mahomes is generational talent. The point is to be than you are now for a fraction of the price for 5 years.

Aikman was talking a lot of nonsense last night.

The ONLY way that it makes sense to draft a QB is if we tag Prescott and get a 1st for him. Otherwise, he should be extended and we don't have a need for a QB, besides a back up.

Ole Troy likes to hear himself talk. One of my least favorite color guys. Romo is 10X better than Aikman.

In 2020 after 5 rounds we had 4 picks that were on defense....didn't seem to help much.
Diggs will pay off starting next year. Would love to pair him with Surtain.

Gallimore may be a player.

We were also picking down in the draft.

I like the idea of going heavy defense again yhis year with higher picks.

Mahomes also had a ready-made team. They had a GREAT offense before and an acceptable defense. THAT is what it takes for a young QB to succeed. Right now Dallas about 7 new starters on defense to be passable and probably 1-2 on offense as well.

You say you understand but you're willing to roll the dice anyways? What if he's another Schliter, Couch, Schuler, Akili Smith, Leaf or Jamarcus Russell? It will set you back for years. I could go on and on about 1st rd busts.

Because it is worth the gamble on Trevor, on Fields, probably, though I see him as another Dak. and yes I watched every game of his. As I am a Buckeyes fan. But I think he is more accurate and has a stronger arm. Therefore he would have to be a strong consideration. As for the other QB's, I don't know.

You could go on about busts, but one can do the same for successes.

They were productive but slow starts have been Daks story since 2017. Most of our production came from catchup; but I’m not implying anyone can do that, Dak deserves his credit.

But maybe it’s time to consider a top QB in the draft instead of draining our cap space for Dak when it’s clear as day the entire defense needs to be gutted.
Not this season, this season when Prescott started we did not have "slow starts" on a consistent basis. So, the "garbage time" idea isn't accurate.

If Jerry intends to sign Dak, don't waste a top pick on a QB. We have other needs.

That is true, as I said eluded to. They have a decision to. make. Move on take the QB IF it is for sure they can get one. If they are picking lower than 3, they probably will not.

Either way I am ok with it, I am not saying do what it takes to get a QB. I am suggesting if one is there, before they sign Dak, they need to consider it vs the huge contract.
However I think they already made up their mind to extend Dak.

I posted before, I want them to win a few games, get to the 5th or 6th pick, and this will all be a moot point.
Fans will not be posting for 20 years....should have took a QB....:muttley:

There should be no absolutes. If you think the QB available when you pick is the next Mahomes, or Montana, then you draft him, and tag and trade Dak.

Keep in mind though that for every Mahomes there is a Ryan Leaf. It’s a real crap shoot.

Dak is a top 10 QB. He’s worth top 10 money. I’m not sure he is worth more than that.

When you look around the league you see guys that are arguably as good as or better than Dak:

Mahomes
Watson?
Murray?
Allen?
Jackson?
Wilson
Mayfield?
Brady (declining)
Brees (declining)
Wentz (at least at some point)
Goff (SB in his pocket)
Ryan
Ruthlessraper
Burrow?

I am sure I am missing a few. Dak may be better than some on this list, or will be in the future (older guys) but a good argument can be made you might want these guys today or tomorrow over Dak.
