Well in his defense, because of the lateral move rule, he cant easily raid the defense of a good def team.
This guy is young , I think that is good, might relate to the players better. And if he is smart he should be ok.
If you dont know someone, you dont know if they are smart or not, and people tend to prefer people that they know, it is
human nature.

Some of MM's hire were just buddy hires, like nolan, and this could be similar , but it may not be.
Keep in mind that the jones boys and maybe MM were in on the interviews of any new coach. And Jerry would have to approve the hire.

How about hiring an elite DL coach?

as in someone who has actually coached the DL?

I don’t think it’s too much to ask ...

I want to see wins.

So we basically hired all the Coaches of this trash *** ATL Team that sucked as much as the Cowboys and had an even worse Defense.

Makes sense if you want to improve your historically bad defense

almost feels like we are repeating the same mistakes.

the top coaches are just hiring their buddies.

LETS SEE what happens guys. I think we hired the right guy. Doesn't mean more wins necc. but I think he is an upgrade. We still need players. Gallimore and even Hill are 2 good pieces we can build with inside, but MANY questions remain on the dline. We need an absolute beast on the interior to sure it up..then we can rotate Gallimore and others in. Crawford needs to be cut or retire. He cant cut it. ALDON should purely be a pass rush specialist, not on the field a ton. He gets wore down. This draft has to be all about the defense or its a fail.I would draft at least 2 db's and 2 lienbackers. I like Pete Werner and Jack Sanborn as my 2 linebackers.

i think some of us are worried because the DL was such a mess.

Tomsula is an excellent coach. And I was surprised at how poor the run D was.

I like the DQ hire. Elite coach.

but the DL hire seems odd. And it’s an important job. Right beside the OL coach, which is another issue.

maybe the kid works out. Another KMoore?

Tomsula should never have been fired in my opinion. We were trying to implement a more complicated scheme that needed time. Quinn's scheme I believe will be dismantled by quality teams.

I'm just tired of hiring failed coaches who are underachieving.

We're supposed to be the Dallas Cowboys and we're hiring NFL losers cause they need jobs.
Quinn is far from a failed DC. HC yeah. Ill give you that. But some coaches arent meant to be HC. See Wade Phillips. Im not going to judge Quinn as a DC until i see him as a DC next season. As a head coach he wasnt even that bad. He did make it to a Superbowl. And if boy wonder Kyle learns to run the ball, hes probably a Superbowl winner as a HC.

OL coaching was a small bright light in this last horrible season. I forgot though. You dont like Philbin because we had no pro bowlers on the line. After losing 3 starters lol. Great way to judge coaching.

Jerry and Stephen are resorting to scraping the bottom of the pickle barrel for no name coaches now.

TOMSULA was scapegoated a bit. Fair or unfair. Its the nature of the business. Its a brutal line of work. Lots of turnover. That said, we sucked on the dline. We were a laughing stock. OUR PLAYERS SUCKED. We had s decent starters in Hill and Gallimore that are still very raw prospects with big upside. Problem was we lacked a consistent good player in the middle. Couple that with Nolans asinine scheme and mindset. If we solidify the interior, our linebackers and secondary will play much better. IT ALL starts and ends on the interior dline.

not trying to bust the thread, but the OL was a disaster in 2020.

Lots of excuses.

injuries being #1, COVID, not enough practice, player conditioning, tough schedule, new coaches, etc.

But Philbin is the OL coach. So that means he gets the blame.

that comes with the job.

Tomsula has over 19 years of DL coaching exp. College, NFL Europe, and NFL. Plus some HC exp.

And he's not that old.

Maybe he just wasn't a fit for Nolan's wacky DL scheme?

Who would?

If Tomsula was selectively fired along with Nolan, and Lundquist while leftovers Al Harris, George Edwards and Scott Lurely are still here .. then it's clear that the team selectively did not
think Tomsula was the " excellent " coach that you do.

If you really think Quinn is an elite, then I would think you'd respect his decision to bring in an inexperienced rookie DL coach.
For better or worse, this DL coach decision is gonna be solely upon Quinn. He'll get the credit or blame depending upon how it works out.

And as a previous DL coach himself years back, I would think he knows what it will take and what he will demand from all of his asst. coaches.

while I myself was surprised by the decision over more heralded and experienced DL coaches, I had to think Quinn personally knows enough about
Durde to think that position will be in good hands.

I read a couple of syndications that suggest that Durde has worked with assisting previous DL coaches in ATL (Tosh Lupoi ?).. as well as the LB unit.
I'm not clearly sure what his role was - ditto with George Edwards who is still with the team in some kinda capacity and role.

As for Tomsula, ..naah, he had a previous good rap as a DL coach, but upfront and seeing how he worked, he was just a disaster ! ..LOL

Who would?

Horrible run defense that was even worse than Marinelli,.. suspect pass rush group,.. his -misusage of Gregory that seem to peeve even Jerry, per his interview ,..
totally ruined Bradley Anaes's rookie year .... teammates that were constantly confused and frustrated in what he (and nolan) was trying to sell and bring to the DL, …

- it was a reason why management singled Tomsula out, .. either he wasn't a quality enough teacher as they thought he'd be or there was a stubborn arrogance that they
sensed it stood too troublesome to deal with in the near future.

- hey, Rod Marinelli had an impressive DL coach resume and credentials too, but seeing him working upfront and the results from it after several years here, we finally made the
long overdue decision to move on from him as well.

It'll happen when it becomes cost-effective.
They tried to create a Euro-League once. That didn't work out at all.

They tried to go head to head with the German League (as opposed to working with them as they had in the early years) with similar named teams playing in the same stadia e.g.

Hamburg Blue Devils = GFL.
Hamburg Sea Devils = NFL Europe.

Fan loyalties were stronger with the local teams. Then the next time stadium rental deals were due for renewal, the German League insisted on exclusive arrangements meaning NFLE teams were homeless.

Quinn will probably provide the real DL coaching as that is his background. This guy will just get him coffee and run his errands

I like this. I like the staff and the direction the team is going. Now to get decent DL and OL with decent depth.

because they cant, it would be a lateral move. The guy would have to not currently be under contract to a nfl team , and the good ones are all working lol.

What most posters are missing is, this coaching staff will get us to the chamipionship, get a lead, then lose by a field goal. Cowboys are relevant again. Wait until next year...
