Avoiding the big QB contract would be a great start.

If we do that deal then we just don’t really need to even think about winning anything.

If they dont do that deal then they might as well not sign anyone and tank the next 5 years while they search for a new QB anywhere close to Dak's level because you cant win without a QB on Daks level (as though today was just further proof of that).

You know, I love reading Gil Brandt columns. But I grow weary reading his columns about all the great players of the 1980s that the Cowboys nearly got but didn't. Put together a great trade package for John Elway. Barely lost out! Nearly traded up for Lawrence Taylor! Joe Montana was next on our board. But we took Glen Carano the year before. So we took Doug Cosbie, instead. And he was pretty good!

I feel the same way about the Cowboys now. At some point you're just not doing what it takes, even if you can see what it takes. I love Gil, but it was his job to tell the difference between Joe Montana and Glen Carano. It was his job (well, Tex's job) to make John Elway or Lawrence Taylor happen. And for whatever reason they didn't.

The other factor is Accepting Acceptable. If I had to summarize the Cowboys culture, that's what I would say. It's Sensabaugh Syndrome. Gerald Sensabaugh was a nice player who made some nice plays. he wasn't our best defensive starter, but not the worst. And when a new contract rolled around, the Cowboys were ready to give him a five-year new one. then there was a fan outcry. So they didn't. And Sensabaugh never played another down in the NFL. He wasn't that bad. I'm sure he could have found some team from a talent standpoint. But no one else was willing to pay a veteran salary. But the Cowboys were going to give him five years!

well, maybe an earthquake that swallows up the stadium and the owner and his whole family. I don't know but that would be a start.

A miracle? . . .

Seriously, though . . . an owner, plus a GM, who were adept at making football decisions!

Additionally, coaching, capable of equaling or bettering the best that the NFL has to offer.

1.secure our franchise QB to a long term deal.
2.get Tyron and La'el back...healthy.
3.address the interior of our dline in both f/a and the draft.
4.address that "poor ol' safety position" that "keeps getting shorted every year".
5.tweak the CB room thru both f/a and the draft.

ipso-fatso.....solved.

Jerry hands the GM role over to one of his 9 year old grand kids, they would pick players based on the whether they liked college or FA teams mascot, and would do a better job then him.

False..

Avg QBs can win with great teams around them.

1) A top 5 QB (I think we have this)
2) An aggressive DEF that can show different looks (We don't have this and can't see this happening anytime soon)
3) A Bill Parcells type coach to rebuild the 53 and create a more intense mentality around the building
4) Better Scouting of free agents
5) Someone to work alongside the front office who can advise Jerry who has actually build a winning team before.

A big culture change - which can only come about with a clear out.

Question of the Day: What would it take for Dallas Cowboys to also be Super Bowl Contenders too ?

Its not about KC Chiefs - as they have a phenomenal QB in Mahomes and an HOF head coach but look at how they build that team around those two to challenge being a dynasty for years to come.

- Look at the Bucs, who were going thru the Jamis Winston overall No.1 pick and years of mediocrity
but look how that management went out and got the HC, the aging GOAT, they already had skillful WRs
and TEs but they built a champioship contending defense and an OL around Brady

- Look at Buffalo who have been hideous and one of the losing organizations for decades since the Jim Kelly days ..but look how over the years they have build a SB contending team around a HC, QB and other
elements on both sides of the ball ... only KC Chiefs stood in their path to play in SB ..

- And you know GB contended this year with a 2nd year HC ....there's always some questions about their defense rising to play championship defense - but at least they are in the NFC title game

And then where...how close or how far are we the Dallas Cowboys from finally contending for NFC title games and our very own legit SB runs .....

Fix the trenches on both sides of the football. I did mention the Bucs Front 7 several weeks ago as the blueprint. Yesterdays win was not about Tom Brady, it was their four 4 getting consistent pressure, where the Packers just couldn't run the football.

There is only one way for the Cowboys to ever make another SB and that is for the Jones to sell the franchise, hire the next Belicheat and sign the next Brady. Good luck with that! We'll have another 25 years of ineptitude my friends.

Main thing is getting this defense turned around. I think we can put out a quality defense that the Cowboys have the fire power on offense.

We already have ineptitude coupled with hubris. About the worst cocktail of mediocrity
