This wasn't greedy?

(Mar 29, 2013) Tony Romo reached an agreement on a blockbuster six-year extension worth $108 million, making him the highest paid player in franchise history.

Okay, Tony Romo was greedy. Now explain how it makes sense to overpay Dak because Tony Romo was greedy. Let's hear the reasoning here because last I looked we were supposed to learn from mistakes not double down on it because we made one in the past.

In 2013 when Romo signed that extension he was the 12th highest paid QB at $11.8M (Eli Manning was #1 at $20.85M)

In 2014 Romo was the 14th highest paid QB at $11.7M (Eli Manning was #1 at $20.4M)

In 2015 Romo was the 12th highest paid QB at $14.9M (Drew Brees was #1 at $23.8M)

In 2016 Romo was the 7th highest paid QB at $20.8M (Eli Manning was #1 at $24.2M)

So while I did not agree with the re-signing of Romo, how was Romo greedy when in the 4 seasons after signing his extension Romo averaged out to be the 11th highest paid QB????

I've said all millionaire athletes are greedy. Owners even more so. Peace man, no arguements from me today. I'll go smoke some green leaf instead.

what silly is dak wanting that 2mil this isnt about 2mil now 2 seasons ago it was about 32-33 now its 35 then its oh i dont want 5 years blah blah blah,.,im over it and no longer care if hes here or not..im ready to move on from this debate,,most exhausting subject on here outside of defensing zeke..zekes 15mil that he just now will start making pales in comparison to making a 40mil mistake with dak..i mean not even close..
I disagree. I'd rather pay Dak 40 and a rookie running back 4 million a year than I would paying Zeke 15 million. Love Zeke but just doesn't make sense to me.

He was OVERPAID. Romo did nothing to warrant getting that much money. He knew it. Everyone knew it.

Based on what? Goff has been to a SB and has been and won in the playoffs. Wentz had an MVP season the year the Eagles won and without him they likely don't even make the playoffs. What has Dak done? Has he consistently helped the team make the playoffs? No, he is 1-2 in playoffs and consistently shows bad QB play when he runs into teams that have better than average defenses.
Wentz hasn't even played in a playoff game so 1-2 would actually be a improvement for him. HE hasn't even finished a playoff quarter.

Tony Romo prior to signing the lucrative extension (2006-2012...7 seasons)

93 Games 55 Wins 38 Losses .591 Win % 2,097 for 3,240 Comp % 64.7 25,737 Yards 177 TD's 91 INT's Playoff Record 1-3

By way of comparison, here are Dak Prescott's career numbers:

69 Games 40 Wins 27 Losses ..597 Win % 1,514 for 2,293 Comp % 66% 17,634 Yards 106 TD's 40 INT's Playoff Record 1-2

So, given the similar win % and statistics, the argument can be made that Dak would be overpaid too. Furthermore, given Romo's deal made him on average the 11th best paid quarterback in the league, and based on 2020 quarterback contracts, Dak should be looking at around $25.4M.....in other words right around what Carson Wentz is making.

Yes, Dak's career record is 42-27.....a winning percentage of .607......and since his 13-3 season in 2016 Dak's record is 29-24....a winning percentage of .547.......so Dak has been 2-1/2 games above average as a starting QB since 2016......yet he deserves a lucrative new deal? Okay.

Then the Cowboy should also have let Romo walk too when he asked for elite money.
In hindsight Romo was a better QB bit still not an elite guy. I don’t want to make this a Romo Vs Dak so let’s not go down that path. To me they are functionally equivalent. Same ceiling on those two players. Neither will carry you to a SB on their own. You don’t pay these kind of QB’s in this era and succeeded.

Due to a season ending injury. Had he not gotten hurt he leads that Eagles team to the SB or are we going to pretend that he didn't play most of the season and actually allow that team to make it to the playoffs?

Check your history before making a claim:

Carson Wentz actually started the playoff game in 2019 but got hurt early on so your claim that he never played in a playoff game is actually inaccurate.

How in the hell is Dak worth 24-25 million? That' less than Kirk Cousins, Jimmy G, Teddy Bridgewater, etc.

I do not consider anyone on this site to be a "hater", but many of these posters are 100% biased. They will lie and say, "I like Dak, and it has nothing to do with him", but in the same breath laud another lesser QB. Most of the QB's they compare to Dak, are either on par with him, or less talented. Why can't Dak, just be greatful to live in America, and play for free, lol.

To be fair insults are thrown over basic, thought out, or troll posts...
There always seem to be some that make a habit of lame insults no matter what they are responding to, but those are the kind of people my comment was directed toward.

He actually said it in the same sentence. The whole "finishing a playoff quarter" thing. First part was inaccurate but he did account for his playoff tenure of less than 1 quarter.

Well I mean if wins was all you got paid for then yeah I'd agree with you. But there is more you take into account. Youth, ceiling, skill, leadership......
