Yes, that’s my response to talking heads. In case you don’t know, all they care about is clicks from the likes of your type. That’s all. There’s a sliver of truth in some of what they say, but only a sliver and very rarely. Anyone who believes them hook, line and sinker like you are in the words of Bill Parcells, “you’ve been sucked”.

The report from ESPN is largely accurate. It's been reported everywhere. Shoot, CBS Sports had an agent write an article who basically admitted this stuff is going to happen. The lower cap is going to result in some crazy action coming up. We already are seeing some surprising cuts/trades. Frankly, you shouldn't have needed any sports reporter telling you that there could be a slew of surprising cuts/trades. If you understood the cap situation, you'd have figured that out yourself.

Now most smart people would look at the landscape, understand how the cap works, etc. and be able to process these reports and realize they are largely true. Or you could be a panty waist like yourself and just whine and moan and complain about how awful sports reporters are because you either don't like what they are saying or aren't smart enough to be able to understand what they are telling you.

Pittsburgh signed Ben Roethlisberger today. You've been sucked. There's always cuts and trades between now and the season.

LOL. It was essentially a pay cut to help the Steelers get $15 million more cap space. He did the Steelers a favor. You aren't very good at this.

There are going to be more cuts than we've seen in the past, including to players who normally wouldn't get cut in a normal cap year.

I'm thinking most teams will sign players under contracts that pay less in 2021 and makes up for it in their 2nd and 3rd years

That seems the logical solution... Certainly some are going to be cut, but some might now actually stay with their teams longer due to restructuring instead of cutting.

Taking everything under consideration the only play here is releasing Prescott in conjunction with re-signing Dalton and moving up and picking a QB.
The above scenario also leaves you room to pick up some quality defensive players in the Fa market.
It would be total destruction tagging Dak at 37 million.

I'd love to get Wilson, I just don't see that trade as possible. Seattle is 11 million under the cap. They'd have to sign Dak and eat a 39 million dollar dead cap.

Even though Wilson's cap hit is small, it would still eat up most of our cap space. They can make room, but I highly doubt enough to sign someone big.

Including Dak in the deal makes it more expensive for us - you'd need to include extra picks to offset the cap hit of Daks salary.

Solution is simple - let Dak become a FA and then we dont have to give people picks to take him off us.

JJ is worried about PR. This is an ideal week to let Dak go from a PR persepective. News gets caught in a rapidly moving news cycle with loads of other 'shock' cuts across the league. JJ can even tell the cameras that he would have signed Dak only the cap went down -blame the cap.

Cowboys could even get good PR from a couple of big name signings of other teams surprise cuts.

Here is a link to the 2020 draft picks and their 1st year cap hits:

https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/draft/2020/

Here is what the picks we have in this year's draft were paid in from last year's draft (1st year cap hit):

Pick #10 - $3.58M
Pick #44 - $1.35M
Pick #66 - $0.89M
Pick #75 - $0.87M
Pick #99 - $0.82M
Pick #107 - $0.81M
Pick #115 - $0.80M

So you are already up to $9.12M through Round 4.

Here's what you have forgotten. There is a formula to figure out the rookie pool cap amount and part of it is based on how many picks a team has. That is why it's not the same for every team. The formula also includes the total amount of rookie pools for every team for the previous year. This pool amount represents what the first year of rookie contracts is. Many to most 1 -3 round drafted rookies get larger signing bonus and a smaller salary so they can average the amount paid over the length of the contract just like other players using less of the rookie pool per player.

Yep. So what do we see? Players sitting out a year thinking the cap will go back up and wait for more money or take less from an other team this year to play?
Most players who get cut will still be paid guaranteed money, even when the team lowers this year’s cap. On top of that, these are usually good players who have reached a part of their contracts where they have a big salary on teams that have a salary cap problem. So they will get restructured or released. If released, they collect whatever guranteed money is still owed and get to sign a nice contract with one of the teams that has lots of cap room.

The so called “massacre” probably isn’t the players, but the teams losing star players they can’t afford. It may be a boon to other teams.

Scherff is going to eat up about 14-16 million of that to start.

I see them signing FS Anthony Harris and then a WR like Curtis Samuel. Should be about all they do with the big name guys

I can see a lot of big names get cut next week. I’m not saying we will but other teams may need to with this cap coming. 15 million less at the lowest with 180 million since it was 195 million last year will hurt teams more than we realize
Good - these guys all make waaaaay too much to PLAY A GAME.

There may be a lot of big name players released, however, no team will be able to sign them for what they will want.

Correct, which means a lot of 1-year "show me" deals. The kinds that the Jones boys love.

If this does come to fruition, it may in fact be an unusually active year in FA.

But will solid veteran players be willing to sign for half their normal value to be on a team?
