For 13 million?

I'm not opposed to bringing him back long term, but at much less AAV.

This team is as frugal as can be with free agents but drunken sailors with their own. Thats the point.

market value. Go get your money Vandy!

Given what some very good players are signing for the last couple of days....

There's NO way they can pay him 13 million for 2022.

I realize he fits the mold of those Jerry likes to double down on dumb with, but this team has got to start making better and more realistic decisions with their own draft picks and second contracts or none of the futility will ever change.

For the record his 5th year option should be around 9-9.5 million, not 13.
The Franchise Tag this year is $14,791,00. Next year it is estimated to be $18,284,000 (OverTheCap).

I don't like the 9.5 for him, but I really hate 18. I also would like to see him in a defense with tackles that help him. I would also love to see what he is like in a defense where Smith isn't with him. I would love to see a breakdown of how the defense performed when Smith wasn't on the field compared to when he was. However, I think Smith's play count was so high that it would make those times insignificant. Cutting Smith after this season saves 5M.

You'll be waiting a long time for quality DTs to get here. Truth is, LVE can't play a full season. He is a less productive version of Sean Lee.

I Like his ability but no way in hell would i sink money into him long term..that neck is definitely a real thing that will continue.. if he was just a normal person walking the streets he'd be fine but running into 300lb linemen and rbs full speed is a recipe for disaster. nothing personal , because i think he's a good kid but it'll ultimately be wasted frustrated money.

I thought I had heard he was only about 9.25 million for his 5th year option because he was an alternate for the pro bowl?

(Ok, just saw the above post)

This is their issue. They are so desperate to sign their own because it validates them drafting this player.Letting them walk admits they made a mistake. Can't have that....Their ego is too big.

Individuals commit the sunk cost fallacy when they continue a behavior or endeavor as a result of previously invested resources (time, money or effort)

Like I said.. If his medical is trash then don't sign him.

Only they know his true health.

Based on what they say publicly and what I know then no way do I let this player go.

He among others, should have never been drafted.

I wouldn't pickup the 5th year but i'd keep him at a discount, maybe 1 year extension with a small guarantee but big incentives based on playing time / performance. No more big contracts for average players....stop the bleeding!

Maybe he was on performance enhancers.

He looks like a Super Hero in person. Most people that look like that didn't do it naturally. Even if they are genetic freaks.

And if anyone needed them it would've been him for that injury.

He gets paid...

Then goes back to being bad.

Kind of makes sense but its obviously pure speculation.

They were probably injecting stem cells into his knee to get his drop foot to correct itself at a higher rate, speculation on my end but this is becoming something popular with knee injuries and UFC fighters. Fighters are given PED's to return back from things like an ACL tear at record paces and then clear this out of their system prior to the drug testing for the fight, can see something similar with Jaylon as he was off the field and redshirted, had his breakout and went back to being mediocre. Likely due to his lax on training because he was training harder to get back in form and speculation on my part for being on PED's during his recovery process. This is why I think we have not seen him run sideline to sideline since he hit Deshaun Watson on that TD saving play, he just can't compared to that year when he came back fresh.

There is no way you can ever give this kid a clean bill of health again. If you can't give him that, then you shouldn't extend or pick up the option. These are the shrewd decisions the Cowboys should be making so they can make better decisions in regards to bringing in new talent. Let him walk.

I also saw Jaylon mention something that should be noted, he does not have the expectations that the fan base has. Our expectation is for him to turn into an All-Pro linebacker (i wish) but more realistically a consistent pro-bowl player. Jaylon has already passed his NFL expectation as his only expectation was to get back healthy on the field to play in the NFL, passed that I think for him everything is a bonus and he really has no expectation himself to turn into an All-Pro player, just his own expectation to beat the odds and get onto the field, with him getting this contract he has exceeded this and likely is lax now because what he was out to accomplish is done, and he knows he cannot physically be any better so the fan's perspective is vastly different than his own.
