They showed interest in Smelly Taco, ClaiBURNED, Barbie Carpenter and several other Day 1 & Day 2 picks who turned out to be total duds. That's what worries me.

Milton is your Crawford replacement, big enough to play base end and can kick inside some on passing downs. He is not a 3-tech, he's a 5-tech. No problem with the pick, and would expect a 1-tech in the 4th !

If you like these players more than others in their respective positions then you better take them while you have the chance. Maybe a round earlier or else regret not getting them and cry over spilled milk.
Now we think Cowboys like Milton then so do rest of the teams. You may need to take him in round 2 unless you like another prospect more. Just the way draft is.

I do think Williams lasting to 75 is a possibility. The arm length is probably going to hurt his versatility in the pros, and that could drop his value.

He played 5T alot, and thats really counter to his strengths. He doesnt have great length to win with leverage. He could be a play making 3T in the pro's in the mold of Geno Atkins, but I don't the versility is there

You come away with this top 100, there are still some good options in the 4th and 5th. Tufele wpuld probably be the first guy I look at of he lasts to our 4th. Brown would probably be the next guy I look at. Long term, Gallimore, Williams and Brown could be a very good interior. You just hope you are getting decent play out of Woods and Urban this year, because I don't know if Brown is a guy I am counting on in 2020

In a year where we already have10 picks it doesn't make sense to me to be trading down to get even more. It makes more sense to me to be using those extra picks to our advantage by trading up.

Dane has the best Cowboys mocks next to Gossellin back in the day. Dane relies on the scouts and his inside knowledge on the Cowboys. One thing I noticed is he said that it is close between Surtain/Horne so the Cowboys could go either way.

No problem as long as it’s in the 3rd.

1st and second round picks need to be instant starters.

3rd and 4th are for rotational guys like Williams. They still don’t totally know what they have in Hill and Gallimore and want to give Gregory a bigger role so what would they do with Williams unless the new staff has given up on Hill. McCarthy seemed to like him.

5th and later are special teams/projects

I think they are fine with either corner as it appears their tags are touching. Coaches might like Horn, scouts might like Surtain, but the end of the day, one is the best bet to become a Cowboy. There is strong buzz that the Eagles are looking to jump ahead of the Cowboys for the top corner. Great, that would make the choice easier for them and have the Eagles lose an extra pick.

Starting to warm up a little on Milton, but still wouldn't take him until 75, but he is probably off the board at that juncture. I am willing to gamble on Marvin Wilson in that 3rd or 4th range. You are talking about Bobby Brown? Think he is more of a traditional NT, where this staff is looking more at tweeners at the position. I wonder if McNeil is even on their radar.

There is buzz all around the Eagles for quarterback, wide receiver/tight end, offensive linemen and cornerback. I listen to their talk shows, they expect the Eagles to stay and take what is left. One of their reporters stated if they wanted to trade up they would have never of traded down. If the Cowboys want the top cornerback all they have to do is trade a 3rd to Detroit. Broaddus basically said if the Cowboys want Surtain they will get Surtain.

I think the only teams that will trade in the top 10 are the WFT and Bears but they will have to offer two more first round picks. The Patriots because they pick 15, will only have to offer one extra pick to get to Detroit. Atlanta might trade with Denver but the Broncos are not offering the extra first round picks.

It is possible fir reasonable people to hold 2 thoughts in their heads

1. yes we have a lot of picks but the real value in this draft is in rds 2-3 where we gave only 3 picks

2. There is no defensive player worth 10 in rd 1 and we need DT, CB, FS, and LB

so, let’s trade down in rd 1 and pick a player at 15-18 who is worth it as well as get a rd 2 pick

That be an A+ draft imho.
Value and fit align perfectly.

1-Surtain -- Everyone knows we want him thus Philly wants to bluff us into trading up. Good luck to them, idiots. Perfect fit and has to be scary for Philly who is likely drafting a Bama WR so we'll have the CBs that know them best in the world....
2. Jevon Holland is probably the best pure coverage safety in this draft. -- He's like Earl Thomas minus run skills and consistent play. But as a man coverage safety or single high he is a great prospect that was ranked in top 15 before the season began. He's not a 4.3 guy by any means but he is plenty quick with great play recognition and he projects to a nickel CB in many schemes. In Dallas his football IQ and general play making would elevate him to a top flight modern safety.
3. Milton -- Dane special. Dane is very plugged into what Dallas would actually do. I have no doubts these guys have been selected in Dallas own internal mocks before. Williams is the best athlete at DT in this draft. He's also undersized and may just be a 3T. But we are talking Aaron Donald minus superman strength there. No really. He ran a faster 40 and has better cone and vert numbers. He is a freak. He's also a Texas kid. His relative athletic score ranked eighth out of 1,361 defensive ends drafted since 1987. That's bananas.
4. D'ante Smith -- Another scout driven lab built value pick here. Smith was out most of this season with an undisclosed injury. But he has 35+ inch arms on 300 pounds and was a Team Captain. He checks a lot of boxes as a guy who needs to sit 1-2 seasons but has starting LT upside. This "schedule" would fit neatly in with Tyron Smith IMHO. He immediately leaps Knight and Steele as developmental OTs then emerges year 2 as swing. By year 3 you are looking to start him somewhere.
