I think that's his absolute ceiling. But Asumougha had his Island beford Revis did
there are some comp saying Ramsey and Nnamdi Asomugha

those saying BJ is joke that Surtains floor, Surtains upside day 1 is more then BJ , he will be as good as BJ day 1 and improve past him..seriously BJ is bad comp..he might be a Terence Newman type if we had to choose a DC..

I see now why Garrett hated entertaining the comparison of one athlete to another. Why can't you do your own study of him and see Patrick Surtain II as his own man as an athlete?
Lol some people like to do this why did you click this thread who hurt you

he lacks Bryon's athletic attributes but probably is ahead of Byron in terms of football smarts. If it was any other year he'd be a mid first rounder tops maybe bottom of first. I dont see him as worlds ahead of the other cbs which is why I am indifferent on whether or not he wears silver and blue.
I think you’re right. I think when it comes down to it we gonna move up or down.

The value at ten seemingly stinks. Might trade down to 15 or so and just get a pick next year kinda trade.

or just sell the farm for pitts.

His father.

Horn and Surtain both have the tremendous advantage of having dad's that played in the league. That can be huge developmentally. We saw that last year with Diggs whose brother is a stud. These guys come in ready to roll.

I still think Horn is going to be the better player.

Byron couldn't have been in a less optimal environment and still ended up as one of the best corners in football at the end of his time here.

Surtain is the opposite. Couldn't have been put in a better position to succeed.

Said a long time ago, he's Byron Jones with a little better Coaching and ball skills, a little less athletic but same body type, size etc. Neither of those guys are in your jock cover guys. Both shadow and cover, tackle.

But everybody said I don't know what I'm talking about so whatever.

They couldn't be more wrong.. I usually use you as a standard for myself if I feel like my opinion might be off and if you disagree I might question my opinion.

why i agree with some of what you say in terms of Surtain I don't carry as much admiration for Byron. I know you do but I don't. Do i think the Cowboys should have paid him rather than zeke and Jaylon yes i do. But not what he made he not in the same stratosphere as Ramsey or a healthy young PP and we could name others but this thread don't need to be about Byron its about Surtain's comparable

Don't do that Catch. Aim higher!

But it's kinda funny, and this is just me, I have no info to support this, other then what I see myself. The biggest thing for big CBs or DBs in general is how well they can open up. How well they can accelerate after turning. A lot of people like to say, open up their hips but what it really is, is being able to turn and Burn. Bigger guys cheat. That's why you see DBs turn their backs to WRs when they change direction. That's a cheat and a technique but I don't like it. I never have because a smart WR and OC can burn you pretty good on this. They study you, they figure out what type of route, what type of break puts you at a disadvantage and forces you to turn your back and then they run a double move off of it and you end up burned for 6 or a big 1st down. I just don't like that from a DB and that's kind of what Surtain has a problem with. He doesn't change direction nearly as well as other guys do IMO. People say he's smooth, just makes it look effortless. Well, that's because he can't be sudden and open up to change directions I suspect. I mean, it's a body mass dynamic, it's physics. Big body guys just have more trouble changing directions on average. It's harder to do. So he has learned cheats but I don't like that. I like a guy who can keep the WR in front of him and just stick and move with him. Guys who are sudden because those guys are better in the slot and usually in zone coverages, which are a bigger and bigger part of the game these days.

JMO.

It's interesting and I'll admit that I could very well be wrong on this but, I feel like the CBs in this draft are being sold a little bit. I don't feel like the position is as good, at the top, as we've seen in the recent past. I think the guys at the top this year are maybe mid to late picks in other drafts and I think it's because their families have ties to the NFL. This is not to say that I don't think they are good players, that is not what I think. I do think they are good players but I don't think they are top 10 to 15 guys in other years. That's just my opinion.

It’s kinda my point with Surtain.

This fan base hates players like him. I mean we didn’t like Newman.. Brandon Carr we didn’t like and he wasn’t nearly as good as Newman or Jones at the top of their game but still.

These quiet guys who just do their job and we never hear from get ripped to shreds on here whenever they finally do have a bad game.

So let’s just stay away from this type and have some fun and get a flashy guy like Horn who can be as good as anyone in this league but just needs a bit of work.

A bit of work? Horn is a penalty magnet. If you take that out of his game he’s not that good. In Dallas he will cost us yards every time he grabs. Which is a lot.
