So the GM gets a high grade and if the team falters it's on the coaches and players.

I didn't know Jerry had a CZ account.

Anything wrong with putting the onus on the players?
I know many want to give the players a pass and blame coaches and the GM.

Simple questions: Is the team a contender right now? Can this team contend for a championship? Is the talent there to contend? If the Cowboys played the Chiefs or Bucs today, would the game be competitive? If so, then the GM did his job. If not, then the GM failed.

Sounds fair to me. I prefer to be fair in my evaluation. The fair time to grade a GM is now not after the season in my opinion.

You are free to give the players a pass and blame the GM using hindsight if things go wrong.

I am optimistic, not full speed ahead, but I hope we hit on our picks and Dan Quin fixes this defense

The GM had help. OTA pace is not "full speed". They are teaching and doing drills. Nothing to really get excited about other that it's back to normal.

Nothing to do with the speed of OTAs, or teaching drills.
GM had help? You don't say? Who would have ever thought?

Not excited about that Parsons' draft pick?

It sounds like an excuse but there were some bad breaks last season with the injuries and the self-inflicted wound from going ahead with a new defensive scheme using Zoom to install it.

I like the off season moves including signing the QB because I am selfish, I don't want to wait for another QB to develop and they could end up with one a lot worse than this one, a lot worse.

Should be a fun offense to watch and I believe the D is already better and I don't see a scary team in the NFC.

I also recall how I felt going into the 2014 and 2016 seasons, not high on either and they won 13 games both years.

I love the offseason too.

I love how they had a glaring hole at DT and only halfheartedly addressed it in the draft, effectively changing nothing. They still put no priority on the position and I adore them for it.

I love how they entered the draft cornerback obsessed, like all the real good teams are. To the tune of triple dipping with two of the three being freaks worthy of Barnum's Museum of Wonders.

I love how they invested the 2nd richest contract in league history to, uh, Dak Prescott. A constant QB disadvantage against the good teams for the foreseeable future has me stoked.

Sitting out free agency yet again with a roster devoid of talent in critical areas? Love it. Can't get enough of it.

But what I love most of all, what I'm in love with actually, is the front office continuity. To be able to bring back the band that has bombed for 25 years has me ready to rush out to buy tickets for the next show. I may even show them my breasts if Rockport will let me sit on his shoulders. It was so comforting to see them unable to break down their own players in the post draft press conference and chalking up last year as an aberration.

I don't know how it could have gone any better for us.

You said "full speed ahead" but that's not true, it's just OTAs which is a slower pace.

In your OP you seemed ready to give Jerry all the credit for the talent that's been acquired while in reality, Jerry had a great deal of help.

Parsons has done nothing to distinguish himself as of yet. But it's early.

As I understand it to be, the Cowboys are going full tilt while most of the other teams are slowing down. I'm inclined to think that bodes well for this team to improve. Of course, how much we'll do so remains to be seen. In other words, there seems to be some evidence of us doing great, while there's also the reality that it's early yet. Many questions are yet to be answered before assuming we're in the lead. Observe and hope for the best is my approach.

Huh? Full speed ahead is an idiom for how you view the team or players in this instance. Nothing to do with the speed of the OTAs.

Feel free to sub out Jerry with front office if you like. Same idea.

Not sure you understood the gist of the post. If one likes the players and thinks these players have a chance to win and contend, then the GM/front office did its job. The rest is on the players and coaches to execute.

If your reason for starting this thread was to argue... Mission accomplished.

Was it the mere mention of Parsons that triggered you? Were you the one who called Parsons 'snake oil?' I can't remember.

I suggest taking a deep breath, relaxing, going back and re-reading from the beginning. Good evening.

Does one see a contender on paper right now? Yes or no? This is the time to fairly grade a GM. Not after the season in hindsight.

No. I don't see a contender on paper. What would lead me to believe that?

I don't remember Dallas winning 13 in any other season than 2007 and 2016.

The taunting is the giveaway of your intentions for this thread.

Gotcha - I'll take that as giddy up and full throttle ahead.

Hold your horses like I've been since 07. There's been some season I expected a good season but haven't seen this team as a contender since 07. I have decent hopes of a good season this year because the schedule is so weak. But still not fully expecting a good season tbh.

This defense still sucks until proven otherwise. We don't know if these rookies can even play, and I'm not sold on Quinn and his arm length obsession.
