Gilbert gives the WRs a chance, he pushes the ball down field aggressively...not dinking n dunking all game. That's what I like about him, he's trying to win oppose to trying not to lose.
That's what I saw. Didn't look like he had an ounce of fear in him. Trust the receiver. Seems like a good QB to me. Wonder what is holding him back?

(yes...obviously takes more than one good game....)

I want the team to play the backup QB in a real game, if possible. If the team gets a comfortable lead, I want the backup guy in for experience. It's a little more dicey if it's the opposite, if we're getting blown out. The starter gets pulled, he's likely to see it as a slight. Sometimes I wish it were more like hockey where if a goalie is having an off night, it's just expected that he be pulled to spare him any more embarrassment. Sometimes a player just has an off day. But definitely put in the backup if we're way ahead.

It's been my #1 complaint for 2-3 years now. It is entirely possible we missed a playoff bid because of playing an injured QB. Maybe now that Jerry has big money invested, we can pull #1 for a few series.

Yup. I've always felt that your #2 should be good enough that the team has confidence that it can win with him. If the coach feels his backup is trash, he might be inclined to keep playing his starter seriously injured and putting his career, and the team's chances, in jeopardy. I think that may be what happened to RG3 in Washington. I don't think Coach Shannahan thought he could win with his backup, at least not at the time when RG3 was playing so injured. The sad thing is, that backup turned out to be quite good and absolutely should have played in relief. Trashed RG3's career.

Opportunity a lot of times especially if it took him some (development) years for things to click.

Right now, I'm not sure anything better is out there........may as well let him and Rush duke it out. Just me, but I have more confidence in Rush. He knows this offense like the back of his hand.

Garrett Gilbert working to remain as Cowboys’ No. 2 quarterback

The Cowboys have had veteran quarterbacks Jeff Driskel and Brett Hundley visit recently. It’s obvious Mike McCarthy would prefer a veteran quarterback behind Dak Prescott.

Dallas signed Andy Dalton last offseason, and Prescott missed 11 games with his right ankle injury.

The Cowboys, though, didn’t sign Driskel or Hundley, and Driskel since has signed with the Texans.

That leaves the team with Garrett Gilbert, Cooper Rush and Ben DiNucci behind Prescott. Those three have combined for two career starts. DiNucci and Gilbert each started a game for the Cowboys last season, their first career starts, and Rush has three career attempts.
Gilbert should be trying out to be the starter based upon the way he played vs the Steelers. He has more instinct and showed a vision for the offense not seen at quarterback since Kellen Moore was there.

I liked Gilbert, the guy hardly had any chance to practice. Looked better than Dalton to me... just one game but I saw enough. I think he has a gun...

I won't lie, by that game I was hoping for a loss because of draft position, so maybe I wasn't paying as much attention to GG, but man that is an impressive highlight reel vs a solid D

sorry one game is not enough...he didnt have to go through various teams, players and scheming , it was pone game and really while nice game wasn't spectacular..

you can not judge player off one game or Jason Garret TG day win over packer would have made him the starter LMASO..um we all know he was 3rd string and GG over an extended period most likely wouldn't get it done..

if memory serves me right and maybe its not it one of the better defensive and ST play that gave many short fields to the offesne..one of the better games of the season gives some false comps for GG..he played solid but we lost and that what matters..

I generally agree, I was hoping he'd play multiple games so we could see more. Hopefully he gets a lot of pre-season time.

Not when they still had a shot at the Super Bowl with Dalton.

All things considered I think it’s Gilbert’s job to lose. He’s the best option. The vatto has some game in him....

...I too was very surprised he was in the 30's. Never heard of the guy.
He won't be 30 until later this year. Also take a look at his Apollos highlights from AFF. I think he has always had the arm talent, I think maturity and confidence has caught up with the physical talent. Perfect backup candidate IMO.

I agree you can't judge off 1 game. However I will say he was thrown out there pretty quickly after he was signed so he had hardly no time to work with the team, add to it he walks into a situation where they can't protect him with a beat up OL. Dalton and DiNucci got training camp Gilbert got a couple of weeks then facing what was the hottest team in the league at that point in the season being the only undefeated team in Pitt. I don't think the backup spot should just be handed to him but I think what Gilbert did was pretty impressive given the situation he was put in.

Backup QB has become our most critical position on the bench. We aren’t a playoff team without Dak and anyone we currently have on the bench.

We are fools going into this season without a more seasoned backup not knowing what the after effects and sustainability will be from Daks gruesome injury.
