I don't think of Barry Switzer's buffoonery as innovation. He proved Jerry's point about any of 500 coaches could win a SB with that team.

Unfortunately, Jerry fooled himself into believing that he alone built that team. He's spent the last 25 years with his son proving otherwise.
Switzerland was not a dummy. He knew not to come in and make changes. Switzerland knew that he could show up every morning and the talent would win a Super Bowl. It worked.

If he has a great year I would love to have him back beyond this one. If merely average to good I'm all for exploring other options

Not at 15 million. He needs to go. Should never spend that much on a RB.

Tom Landry, basically the flex defense. Then Jimmy Johnson. Basically speed kills. Barry Switzer. Basically let the team do it on their own. I don’t know what Mike McCarthy‘s scheme is. Stronger on the defensive line. Where is the innovation. It’s going to have to come from , Kellen . What do we expect to see different, I’m hoping it’s a wide-open game plan right from the first drive. Catch a lead and then go methodical. Perfect world for me

Dak Friendly baby!!!
Surround your QB with 4 no 1 picks on the offline,all-pro WR galore, HOF TE, Top-notch HB(Zeke), and spend 70% of your cap on offense!
End result.......500 ball and you can only beat dog teams while the playoffs are far off dream!!
DAK FRIENDLY!!!!! YAHOOOOOO

If he were to get 1,600 yards and 12+ TD's I won't have a problem with the money. I don't expect that, but if ...

Yah, but any good RB should get those numbers. You could EASILY get those kind of numbers or better out of a combination of Pollard and another good young back or veteran. Dont need to be spending 15 million. Just sayin.

Now if Zeke was over 2000 combined yards and 18 + TD's then ok, maybe we can talk for me. Thats what a great back should be getting in this offense with 350+ touches.

Any good RB gets 1,600 yards and 12+TD's? Only 2 did that last year - really only 1, but I'll say Cook's 1,557 yards is close enough. 2017- 2019 nobody had 1,600 yards. Last one was Zeke in 2016.

Are you talking about rushing yards or total yards. The game has evolved to where RB's catch passes now. Very important. Im talking total yards and total TD's.

Rushing. But if Zeke were to get 1600+ rushing yards there would also be a strong chance of getting 2,000+ total yards

No, 1600 rushing yards would be great.

But just so you know there were 26 teams in the NFL last year that rushed for 1600 yards or more. Granted some of those yards were QB rushing yards included. But the point is that you DONT need to pay ONE back some crazy amount of money to get your yards. It can be done very effectively by a committee. Cowboys as a team were 16th in rushing yards.

Well, I don't mean 1600 from Zeke and none from Pollard. If it took Pollard getting almost no touches to get Zeke to 1,600 yards or more then I agree it wouldn't be worth it.

I think thats what it would take. Think about it. At 300 carries Zeke would have to average over 5 yards a carry to get to 1500 yards. You need long TD runs to get upwards and over 5 YPC. Not much left for Pollard after that.

Big Picture: Last year there were 13 teams that exceeded 6,000 TOTAL yards with KC leading the pack at 6,653. Only 3 teams have ever exceeded 7,000. But extra game will of course make that more "do-able".
Not getting greedy, let's use 6,500 as our threshold target.
If you use 4,500 as passing target, that leaves 2,000 rushing which is very doable.
I actually think the rushing target should be higher which would get you into the high 6,000's.
Assuming a much more functional Oline, I would hope we could average 125-130 yards\game rushing which would give you 2100-2200. 80 yards per game would get Zeke 1,360. Leaving roughly 900 for Pollard, QB & "others". Doable.

If Zeke got 1,600, that would be an average of 94 per game. I understand the don't overpay for a RB argument but very few can give you that.

Landry was the only innovator, none of the others have been, building a team based on team speed was hardly anything new, he recruited at Miami like that and at OSU before that to try and get over OU.

There really have been only a handful of innovators in the history of the NFL and Landry was one of them. None of the other Cowboys coaches have approached that level and in the past 40 years, only two have approached Landry's level, Walsh with his WCO and Belichick with his morphing defense on a weekly basis. Most HC's would be content for his players to get just one defense down but not Belichick.
