Moving him around has made him a great player as a rookie. We need to continue the same formula. He can be taken out of plays at DE. Moving him around allows him to make plays all over the field and doesn’t limit his playmaking ability.

Best idea I’ve heard since we came up with it back when he was drafted

Parsons needs to be on that D line….all the time…

HUGE difference when he’s not up at the line wrecking havoc..

As bad as Jerry & Son have run this team for over a quarter century, I shudder to think how bad the Cowboys would be if you called the shots.

Parsons breaks the Cowboys rookie sack record and is in DPOY contention

Cowboys fans: “well my idea of how to use him is better”.

He's a positionless athlete for what's becoming a positionless game. Marcus Mosher called him a "middle line blitzer", and I really like that.

I really like Parsons. I'd like to draft another one next year to replace LVE.

Imagine the chaos and destruction two of them would cause.

Parsons is a generational talent. Would take a decade or more to find a other guy like this in the NFL. 4.39 fourty at 250+ lbs doesn't grow on trees.

No need to switch to the 3-4 -- Dan Quinn know exactly what he's doing. That's precisely why the Cowboys' defense has made the successful transitions that it already has. With more talent being added to this defense in 2022, we should improve significantly.

Opposing teams will be obliged to adjust to the various angles that Micah Parsons attacks from. It will confuse the enemy and allow this team to take advantage of their mistakes. We're good to go. Changing what already works well is for fools. We should improve in the weeks to come, with IR talent returning to deliver the needed action for a playoff run.

our run d would be even worse in a 3-4.
Actually the tradition 3-4 is a strong run defense.
- Stronger run defense than 4-3.

When a 3-4 team moves to Nickel, the 320+ NT exits and the Nickel CB enters.

When a 4-3 team moves to Nickel, the 240-ish SLB exits and the Nickel CB enters.

i.e. The 11th man in a 3-4 is the 320+ NT while the 11th man in the 4-3 is the 240-ish SLB.
  • Basic Defensive Alignments from Strongest vs the Run to Weakest
    • 5-2 (Usually only used goalline short yardage plays)
    • 3-4
    • Big 4-3 (The SLB is a DE/LB tweener similar to a 3-4 OLB)
    • 4-3
    • Big Nickel
    • Nickel
    • Dime

I want to get him Lawrence and Gregory on the field at the same time.

The front 5: Parsons - DLaw - Hamilton - Odighi - Armstrong
LB: LVE
SS: Kearse (Aligned next to LVE)

Note: Armstrong is in Gregory's spot because Gregory is out injured.

Not really.

Edge rushing off the offenses right side is what has made him great as a rookie.

Everything else is this cute little side trick he can do.

That's why a 3-4 (running down)/4-2-5 (Nickel) DEF has proved very successful for a number of teams over the years. When you are playing a non-elite QB (say outside top 10) if you can take away their running game it increases the chances of turnovers as they are forced to pass and is not what they would prefer to do.

Would like to see some more beef on the DL
.

Quinn played some snaps with true 3-4 alignments in the preseason and early in the regular season but moved away from it.
- From my study of game footage, they made more mental mistakes in the run game when playing the 3-4 alignment.
- I think Quinn decided to focus on what they do best.

Quinn has played more Big Nickel than any Cowboys D-Coordinator that I can remember.
- i.e. Kearse moves up towards the line and his normal position is played by Hooker or Wilson.
- They've even played Big Nickel against 2 TE sets which is when many D-Coordinators definitely play "base".

a full time traditional 3-4 would be a horrible fit for our current personnel and especially if you want to make Parsons an OLB in it

Playing him strictly off the edge can allow teams to take him out of plays and it limits his side line to sideline playmaking ability. I like watching him make plays all over the field. It’s more difficult to game plan for him when we move him around.

Yeah they’ve done a fantastic job taking him out of plays lol.

The best way to take him out of a play is run him backwards 15 yards.

He’s been taken out of plays and whiffed on some running plays. PFF scored him low against the run in one game this season. If you play him strictly on the edge he has to be taken out to get a breather. He can’t play as many snaps. His best most complete games have been when we move him around. If we want him to be the next Lawrence Taylor we can’t play him strictly on the edge. He has a chance to be the greatest defensive player we’ve ever had if we use him correctly.
